Dr. John F. Campbell is a lecturer in History at the University of the West Indies (Trinidad) who received his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He is the beneficiary of several honours including the University of the West Indies Guardian Life Premium Teaching Award 2006 and the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in 2007. Dr. Campbell has written numerous journal articles and reviews on the issues of Caribbean affairs and development. Beyond Massa was about the truth of chattel slavery and revisionism and the management process behind it to increase productivity on the sugar plantation. John F. Campbell wrote the book in his perspective that he research and the information provided was the truth. Dr. Campbell’s’ language in “Beyond Massa” was Standard English and use fluently throughout the book. It was very understandable and related to the books meaning. The content of the book was relevant to the main idea of the book “Beyond Massa”, as points that given were related to the concept of ‘Sugar Management in the British Caribbean’ within the years 1770-1834. The book was written about management in the British Caribbean and European Whites were well spoken in Standard English. By Dr. Campbell using the dialectology of Standard English, it enriched the superiority of the book and made it more reader friendly, as others would be reading the book, not only locally and Standard English is the language in which generally everyone speaks and comprehends; therefore allowing the book “Beyond Massa” to reach a extensive reading
