The Need For A Better Unit
RUNNING HEAD: BETTER UNIT 2. Ted Jones, the Surgery Unit Director should present his proposal for four things for his unit. Those four things, in my opinion, should be that Ted should ask for more space, the budget to allow new improved equipment and equipment renovations, hire part time employees, and better the accommodations for patients. It is imperative that these four things would allow the facility to grow substantially in many areas as well as provide safety to the patients. These four requests being made would also allow the facility to make more money. Ted should start with requesting more space. This would allow the unit to expand within the walls of the facility. This expansion would aid in being able to provide immediate or emergency surgeries of patients. The expansion would also allow more patients of recent surgeries to come back to the facility for follow up appointments. Expanding the unit will also lead to safety for the patients. According to the NCBI, more space within a facility or unit will also decrease errors in surgery. (Reiling et al, 2008). The added space will give medical professionals more space to move freely within the surgery unit. Adding space for such things and necessities will aid in more organization within the unit which will decrease the chance of not being able to find supplies, ample space for medications, and easier access for such things as oxygen. Ted should also ask for the budget to allow for purchasing new equipment as well as renovating or refurbishing old equipment. Purchasing new equipment is expensive to say the least. However, due to new and better technology, the purchase of new equipment could be beneficial for the facility as well as the patients. For example, years ago there was only one type of MRI machine; today the patient has access to either the closed MRI or the open air MRI.
