Bethany Hamilton Bethany Hamilton has become a huge inspiration to millions across the world with her amazing story of hope, faith and determination. While at a young age of thirteen, Bethany was attacked by a 14-foot tiger shark. This shark bit off her left arm and seemed to end her surfing career as a famous pro surfer. Bethany was very eager to get back in the water, and she returned to surfing just one month after the attack. Just over a year later, Bethany won her first National title for surfing. A few years later she realized her dream of surfing professionally and since then Bethany has been non-stop surfing. Bethany is now involved in many charities, including her own foundation called Friends of Bethany, which reaches out to encourage the youth offering hope to overcome anything through God. Her story has been told in a New York Times best selling autobiography and in the 2011 film, Soul Surfer. Bethany also inspires people all around to live a healthy, fit lifestyle. In fact, she wrote the book BODY AND SOUL in 2014. Today Hamilton is a professional surfer, author, wife, mother and motivational speaker while continuously inspiring lives around the world. Bethany’s lifestyle is very laid back and relaxed, getting to surf everyday in Hawaii. “I grew up in Hawaii and my whole family surfed, so as a kid I was kind of forced into it — in a good way of course! I can’t even remember exactly how old I was when I first got on a board, but I think I was about seven or eight years old when I could really do it on my own. I won my first competition when I was eight. It was a smaller, local competition [Rell Sun Menehune] but still felt very exciting and fun to win at that age. As far back as I can remember I’ve been in love with the sport.”-Bethany Hamilton. Bethany was born into a family of surfers on the island of Kauai February 9th, 1990. Her life revolves around God and with that she was

Through her story of faith, persistence, and confidence, Bethany Hamilton has illustrated to millions how to strive for the seemingly unachievable. At the mere age of thirteen, Hamilton experienced something life changing: having an arm bitten off by a shark while surfing.
