Bethany Hamilton: A Brief Biography

Bethany Hamilton was surfing in Kauai, Hawaii with her best friend Alana Blanchard on Halloween morning when she felt something pull on her left arm. She was rushed to the hospital once she realized that a shark had bit off her entire left arm. A few days after the attack she was all over the news and everyone knew about her. Bethany says “I don't need easy, I just need possible.”
Bethany Hamilton was born on February 8th, 1990 in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii and grew up in Kauai with her parents Thomas and Cherilyn Hamilton. When she was only 8 she was in her first competition and when she was 13 she was attacked by a shark and she had to get her left arm amputated up to her shoulder. Initially feeling no pain, she noticed the water around her had turned red, and her shocked friends realized that her left arm had been severed nearly to the shoulder.’’ Many people thought that she wouldn't be able to surf anymore but she proved them wrong by teaching herself how to surf. Bethany shows people to live a healthy lifestyle and to believe in yourself that you can do anything.
Bethany Hamilton is a very inspiring person to me and many other people and that is the reason why I chose her. She has taught people to not give up on their dreams and have faith. Bethanys personality traits would include faithful, courageous and strong. People look up to her because she is hopeful because she got back on her surfboard only 2 months after the attack and did not give up on surfing.
