Best Reasons for Adopting a Dog
Having a dog is a really great idea. Not only do dogs bring companionship they also bring personality, humor, and security to many households. Dogs can make good companions because of their friendship, unconditional love, loyalty, and protection that they can give. I have also decided that with there being so many unwanted dogs out there, that it would be best to adopt from a local rescue shelter and the best choice in giving a dog a loving family and home.
My number one reason for adopting a dog is their companionship. A dog’s love for their owner is unconditional. Dogs don’t care in the morning if you have morning breath or if you have no make-up on, they will still be there to greet you and is just as happy to see you when you come home after a long stressful day. They will meet you at the door tail wagging ready to give you hugs and kisses because you’re home. Greetings like those can make all your stress and worries go away. A dog’s loyalty can be quite amazing, whether it being someone for you to cuddle with or company on the couch, your dog will always be by your side. In fact, your dog will even follow you from room to room to be by your side. The greatest thing about a dog is that they are never judgmental. Dogs don’t care about the kind of house you live in, the kind of car you drive or if you wear name brand clothes or not, they will always love you for you. Your dog will always be there listening and wagging their tail when you are having a bad day, feeling angry and talking loud. And when you raise your voice at them because they have done something wrong, they always forgive you. They also never complain if you are late feeding them. Dogs can be a great sidekick and a very significant part your family.
Security is the second reason that I would chose to adopt a dog. Dogs can make great protectors and can be very territorial animals. Dogs will defend both their homes and their owners or family. Dogs are known for their bite. Dogs can go to great lengths when protecting their home. Dogs will even give their life in doing so. Although a dog’s bark can be more lethal than their bite. A dog’s bark is their way of communicating with you, to alert you, letting you know that something is wrong and for you to go and investigate. Dogs are able to hear such things as footsteps of a burglar outside the house or a car pulling up your driveway that their owners may not hear. Often a dog can smell or hear someone near your home and begin to bark. This can be especially important when you are at work or out shopping, a dog’s bark can scare off intruders too. A dog’s bark can also alert your neighbors that something is wrong whether it be due to an intruder, fire, or carbon monoxide poisoning and they are looking to get help. Dogs can make excellent protectors, even the little ones.
The final reason I chose to adopt a dog is because of all the unwanted dogs that can be found at local rescue shelters. I feel that these dogs deserve a chance at life just as much as dogs that are at pet stores. There are two reasons I think you should do this: 1) you will have saved a life 2) you will have a healthy pet. Animal rescue shelters are full of healthy pets who are just waiting for a family or a place to call home. Some people can have preconceived negative notions when they hear “rescue shelter” but the fact is rescue shelters examine and vaccinate all animals upon arrival. And the employees at rescue shelters have training on how the dogs behave and can be a great asset to helping you find a dog that will fit with your family’s personality and lifestyle. It also helps to know ahead of time if you are wanting to adopt a puppy or and adult dog. Puppies require a lot more training and patients, were as, adult dogs are more than likely already trained and require less patients. All dogs do require some care, they are versatile animals and can fill many roles and can be very rewarding in the end.
