As a company, Best Buy can be held at fault for some of its performance struggles purely from an internal point of view. Best Buy is categorized as the “leading global electronics and appliance specialist retailer (Passport 4).” They have obtained such success from their warehouse type stores, with specific services offered inside (Geek Squad and MindSHIFT). Using this success as a basis Best Buy strategized to expand their stores in the United Kingdom, China, and Turkey, in hopes of expanding to obtain more revenue and more net profit. However this strategy backfired and these stores in the international market were forced to close in 2011. These store closures carried a 2.6 billion dollar charge with them, which were reflected in the 2012 fourth quarter results.…

Best Buy Europe is a joint venture between US group Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse, which was formed in 2008 when Best Buy paid £1.1bn to buy a 50% stake in Carphone Warehouse 's retail division. Best Buy Europe launched its first store in May 2010, opening a total of 11 stores across the UK. The original plan was for 200 out-of-town "big box" shops around Europe by the end of 2013, selling everything from washing machines to laptops. The outlets were open in Liverpool, Derby, Bristol, Nottingham, Rotherham, Dudley, Thurrock, Southampton, and three places in London - Croydon, Hayes and Enfield (BBC News). Best Buy Europe was shuttered after just 18 months in business. In that short amount of time, it lost £80 million ($127 million), largely due to consumer belt-tightening and increased competition from cheaper online retailers. Up to 1,100 jobs was lost at the eleven UK stores (Engadget).…

Best Buy was started in 1996 by Richard R. Schulze and his business partner James Wheeler. It was originally known as Sound of Music and the first store was located in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1983, the company’s name was changed to Best Buy and the first store named Best Buy was located in Burnsville, Minnesota. By 1984, there were only 8 Best Buy’s in the Midwest, but by 1987 the number tripled and their sales and earnings were at a high $239 million and $7.7 million respectively. Humans have been called the animals which make things, and at no time in history has this been so obvious as the present. Today, every human activity is dependent upon various tools, machines, and systems, from growing food to providing shelter to communication, healthcare, and entertainment. Some machines, like the tractor, speed up and make more efficient activities that humans have done for hundreds of thousands of years. Others such as the airplane or the Internet, make possible things that humans have never been able to do before. This collection of devices, capabilities, and the knowledge that accompanies them is called technology. We can say that "living without technology is like living without air" in this technical world of today. Therefore, we are much dependent on technology.…
