The Best and Worst of My Boss
Everyone by nature has good and bad qualities. A Boss is no exception to this, therefore, the best boss I've ever had is also in some ways the worst.

I currently work alone with my boss and the owner of Heath Sign Company in Athens, Pennsylvania making vinyl and painted signs and graphics. One thing that makes a good boss is respect. My boss has many of the same values and ambitions as myself which makes it very easy for me to respect and admire him. One day during the first week I worked with my boss I was feeling frustrated with my progress in learning the job. In order to break the tension my boss got up and as he left the room he announced "Time to go poop!" As time went on, once in a long while he may offer me a beer after we both close up shop as another way to relax and enjoy a job well done. Interpersonal relations also make and undeniable impact on the quality and effectiveness of a boss. Fortunately Kevin Heath (my boss) has a great personality and is respectful, insightful, and considerate making him extremely easy to work with. It is also very important for a boss to communicate well. My boss is very clear in how he communicates which has made it easy for me to learn quickly and excel in work related skills. Due to both communication and respect I am able to accept criticism from my boss because of the manner in which he does it. Again, this allows for us as a company to be efficient and effective in how we work and grow. All of these things and many more make for not only the best boss I've had, but also a very successful business.

As with most people there are, however, some things that make Kevin a bad boss. The wages of a job are very important in every job if not for some people the most important part. My boss doesn't offer the pay that I am worth. This shows that either he can't financially afford it or he doesn't see the value in me as an employee and the quality of my work. One other thing that makes a bad boss is being inconsistent. My boss

Per Abrashoff, it is a mistake to use “command and control” leadership style to become a good leader. To be a good leader it is very important for a leader to be approachable and carefully listen to his subordinates’ idea and opinion, regardless of who they are, and follow them if needed. In addition, a good leader provides his people with clear vision and direction, and motivates them by making them realize their roles and responsibility are important to the team as a whole, instead of totally commanding and controlling them.…

Do you still agree with the poor qualities originally identified? Would you add or delete any original qualities? I still agree will all the answers from the first essay, but I would add a couple more. Fall short in making available well-defined control, bosses decline to generate values and provide those well-defined hopes. As a result, they recognize what they are thought to do, besides the question why they flop. “If you make every task a priority, people will soon believe that there are no priorities. More importantly, they will never feel as if they have accomplished a complete task or goal” Heathfield, S. M. (2014).…

Honesty is such a huge thing when it comes to any workplace. If you cant be honest with your company then you don't deserve to have a job. When looking for employees, employers look for an honest person. Suppose Tim works for a convenience store. Tim's boss asks him to watch over the store for a few hours while he runs some errands. In this scenario, Tim is the employee (follower) and his boss is the employer (leader). Tim's boss expects TIm to be an honest employee and to make good decisions while hes out. If TIm's boss didn't think he was an honest eployee, he wouldn't have left him with the store by himself. So say Tim was in a money crisis. If TIm is an effective follower, he will just earn his mone and do what is right. But, if TIm is not an effective follower, his first move is going to be to steal the money that he needs and when his boss gets back, just asct like nothing happened.…

The judicial courts is one of the most difficult undertaking out of all the judicial system. Even though law enforcement officers apprehend offenders, it is still up to the prosecutors to retrieve and analyze all evidence from the scene of the crime that the officers collected, so that they can compile a case against the defendant. Then there is the defense also gathering information to make a case to prove the defendant is innocent. Now if I was the boss for the day I would make some changes to help make both sides more successful.…

When I think of a traditional boss I tend to think a little of someone sitting behind a desk most of the day and barely knowing the names of the people who work for them. To be a truly good leader a boss needs to be out there with everyone every once in a while, seeing how everyone works, knowing their employees and showing them that he is not beneath the work that they do every day too. That they are not working for him, but with him.…

When examing what makes a good leader you can ask a very simple question, what I believe to be a very important factor, which is, do they have passion in what they do? Leaders in business today have to have a passion for what they do in order to make a successful and influential leader. The success of any company is only as great as the employees on the forefront make it. “Transformational leadership is a form of leadership that occurs when leaders ‘broaden and elevate the interests of their employees, when they generate awareness and acceptance of the purposes and the mission of the group and when they stir their employees to look beyond their own self-interest for the good of the group” (Bass, 1990).…

A good leader must demonstrate the qualities that they want to see in their employees. For example at organizations like Starbucks and McDonalds the order takers are always friendly and greet you with a smile. This is a part of their customer focus, so a leader must be able to demonstrate these same qualities. If you saw your leader being rude or mean to customers yet they are always telling you to be nice this would be seen as a contradiction. Then you as the employee could lose respect for the leader because they are not effectively demonstrating what they want to be done. An effective leader must be able to lead by…

Most people who work in this world will have a supervisor or boss to report to. Do you know what the characteristics of each kind of boss are? Although they bear some minor similarities, noteworthy differences between a good boss and a bad boss include communication style, work ethics, and job duties. I have had both types of bosses, and it is not so easy to tell the difference, until the employee gets to know him or her.…

I would add qualities of a good leader such as flexibility. A good manager should be flexible so as to accommodate the many changes he might come across in course of management. These may include a change in the work environment. I do still agree with the poor qualities originally identified. There are managers who portray very poor management qualities as identified originally. Some of the poor qualities of a leader identified include failure to communicate, dictatorship, disrespect as well as discrimination amongst employees. A poor manager will display qualities of poor management by showing discriminating among his employees. This means that the manager favours some of the employees. The discrimination brings about division in the organization hence no good team work (Jillyan,…

There are many factors that can make someone a poor leader. The worst leader I ever had was my boss at the insurance company I worked for last year. My boss played favorites, did not do her work, micromanaged, lacked human skills, and recorded everything wrong that someone had ever done. All of these factors are what made her the worst leader I have ever had in my life. The first reason my boss was the worst leader I ever had was because she played favorites.…
