Beowulf's Leadership Qualities

Beowulf "Leadership is an action, not a position." This quotation by Donald McGannon shows how Beowulf, the extraordinary man from Geatland, was a successful leader. Three characteristics that help make up a leader is showing courage, being selfless and loyal. Beowulf portrayed these three attributes throughout his own life. "Though they loved him life seasoned elders answered his courage urged him onwards gazed at the weather wished for the sun." Beowulf fought many battles from the time that he was young warrior until he had grown into an elderly king. In the epic, he slew three menaces: Grendel, Grendel's dam, and a dragon. Beowulf was a warrior for King Hygelac and he would go to battle to protect the kingdom and their people. He was also loyal to King Hrothgar of the Danes because he helped protect the Danish villages from Grendel and his dam.
