Every great leader starts with three great character traits. To be a good leader, you cannot major in minor things; you must be less distracted than your competition. Leaders need inspiration, they are not self-made; they are driven. A leader should be patient, open-minded, and present a positive attitude. No matter how successful your team becomes, a leader should guide you to do greater things than what you have already accomplished. A good leader does not do something because they feel it’s the right thing to do, but they do it cause that’s what they have a passion for doing. Loyalty is another great thing to look for in a great leader. For instance Beowulf left his own land to go defeat Grendel to protect Hrothgar and his people. After defeating him, Grendels mother came after Hrothgar and his people. Beowulf showed good leadership, he did not leave the land after defeating Grendel. Instead he tracked the new threat which was Grendel's mother. Beowulf and those who accompanied him set out to find his mother. As they found her, and was set to defeat her Beowulf was left to fight alone. Beowulf could have turned around and ran but what good leader would do that? …show more content…

A good leader is only as good as the group you are leading is what I was always told. That does help, but there is a lot more that goes into it. I believe a quality leader should also be a good teacher. A leader needs to have the knowledge to pass on to those they lead. A good leader has to be able to listen as well. While those under me may look to me for answers, I have to realize that I may not always have that answer. I may have to take input from my staff, my superiors, and even clients in making proper decisions. Another attribute that is important is a critical thinker. A leader has to think on the go, and know that the answers are not always text book answers. Thinking outside the box sometimes is needed. I also need to earn trust and respect from my staff and those I oversee to be effective.…
