Beowulf: Movie Vs Poem

Satisfactory Essays
Beowulf is a warrior who fights against the darkest, biggest and strongest monster in the world. I will list the differences between the movie and the poem.

The first different ist he Queen. In the poem she just comes to the end and sais one sentence and in the movie she is acting in different scenes. The first scene where she played was already at the beginning when Grendel comes and destroys everything.

The second different and in my opinion the biggest, is after Beowulf kills Grendel. In the poem Beowulf is going to kill Grendels mother. He kills her after a fight, but in the movie she promis him to protect him when he gives her another son. So Beowulf has „sex“ with Grendels mother and leaves the cave and tells everyone he killed her.

If we go beyond the movie, it tells about not only how Beowulf brave is but also to the folklore of the Geats. A monster they are afraid off. To the curse that never end. To the struggles, that King of Geats may in, every time the monster appears. Beowulf is a brave warrior that accepts the challenge of Hrothgar without doubt in him. In his battle, it is not the monster his biggest opponent but the temptation itself. He becomes king not because he defeats the monster but he doesn’t fight the temptation…

My first impression about this movie Beowulf 2007 it was okay, the acting was good but, not amazing the rating of this movie was 6/10 and won 2 awards, and 17 nominations. For my opinion they should do live action instead of 3d animation and stay focus the setting of the story and the person who directed the movie Beowulf 2007 was Robert Zemeckis, he was the writer of Back to the Future part I,II,III and producer of The Polar Express. The beginning of the movie all based on literature version…

Gretel. Hollywood will take a normal story and make a movie that will be more modern. They did the same thing, that they’ve done to a lot of other fairy tales, to Beowulf so it would be more appealing to varied audiences. Hollywood changes the epic poem so much in the movie to draw people's attention, make it a good versus evil kind of movie instead of flat like the poem and making it a more sexy/ emotional movie. In the epic poem and the movie there are quite a few similarities. One being the symbols…

Beowulf Movie Critic Do you envision a strong female role or a male role as your hero? In my opinion the Beowulf movie was a thumbs up, due to Angelina Jolie’s use of seduction and female wiles. Angelina is a critical character who drives the plot. In the movie, her character of Grendel’s mother overshadows Beowulf‘s character as a hero. This is in drastic contrast to the original poem ‘Beowulf’ because in the original, women were not valued and they had no important role. Grendel’s mother differs…
