Disney and Pixar movies tend to have fairy tale endings. The prince defeats the villain and gets the princess. For example, in Disney’s Cinderella, the prince takes the princess away from her dreary life and saves her from the princess’s evil stepmother. Disney characters tend to always live happily ever after. For example, in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Belle and the Beast live happily ever after even though there was a point where the Beast may have died and all seemed hopeless. Happy endings don’t just have to be in Disney and Pixar movies. Ian Serraillier tells of a great poem that might just have you craving for a hopeful ending. The poem of Beowulf the Warrior ends in a hopeful way because he is remembered as courageous, he is given praise, and he is honored, as well as admired.
As different warriors and soldiers pass the mound where Beowulf lies, they remember him as a courageous hero. Beowulf has battled many foes throughout his life. He has defeated sea monsters and even slain a dragon. Not many people have the courage to pursue the journeys as Beowulf does. He will always be remembered by the many people he has saved. His heroism is spread throughout the world. Everyone will know Beowulf when they pass his mound. They will say “Wide and lofty, the brave seafarers driving over the dark ocean might behold it from afar and cry, ‘Look Yonder! the Mound of Beowulf, the hero!’’(page 47). Just as Beowulf is remembered, he is also praised.
Warriors began to praise Beowulf for all his amazing feats. He has done the unthinkable. Defeating a dragon is not something people do every day. This audacious king was the only person who could kill these monsters and live to tell the tale. To his people, he was looked upon as a god. He was their savior. Serraillier writes, “Then twelve warriors, proud heirs of noblemen, rode their horses about the mound, loudly praising their Lord for his valiant deeds” (48). Since Beowulf is praised, he can also be given honor and
