Benefits Of SNAP
The SNAP benefits should become harder to receive for U.S citizens. These welfare programs are provided for an extra financial boost for low-income families. Some of these families are not even trying to take care of their needs, but instead worrying about their physical appearance. In addition, these families that I see utilizing their benefits are usually wearing expensive brands such as Michael Kors, Rock Revival, and Versace. Not all, but most who are receiving these benefits spend their payroll on things they want and not on the things they need; In addition, this is why they are in dire need of these benefits. Legal immigrants and children under the age of sixteen are all qualified to receive food stamps under certain conditions. There are many stipulations when it comes to income as to who is able to receive this help for example a food stamp participant may not have over $2000 worth of resources in his/her home each month (ssa.gov 1). The only exception to this term is if there is a person sixty years of age or older in the house, then income stipulation will rise to $3000 a month because of Social Security checks that will be coming in. Though many are dependent of food stamps, the actual value per person is surprisingly one dollar a day. Since 1996 many cuts have been put in place but then undone.     Welfare is a very hard subject to debate. There are advantages and disadvantages to the current welfare system. Without transfer payments, people who have inadequate income would be at risk for having no food, no shelter, and no healthcare, which is both sad and immoral. Sometimes people come across hardships that put them in financially devastating positions. In these cases, welfare is needed in order for these people to keep their head above water and maintain their lifestyle. I do not believe welfare should be abolished, but it does need to be revised and given many more restrictions.
