Being Grateful Research Paper
“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” -Robert Brault. I believe in many things, but I definitely believe in that quote and I believe in being grateful. I believe that every day we live is a gift, the gift of life and the gift of opportunities. We have the power to do what we want, to be who we want, and to change what we want, and I believe that that is something to be grateful for.

I have lived a very privileged life in my fourteen years of existence, I have only experienced 3 close deaths, and very little true heartbreak. But that just shows why I am the way I am, to appreciate the things that I have that others may not. I am so grateful for everyone in my life, from the neighbors I rarely talk to to my best friend that lives 3 hours away. To me, it’s the little things that matter, such as someone telling you happy birthday, someone giving you a compliment, or just a simple hello, to someone having a bad day, it can mean so much, and I think the power to do that is such a great thing to be grateful for. For others, being grateful may be a little harder, but I think that being grateful for what you do have makes you happier.

It has made me a determined, hard-working person. I want to be something that someone is grateful for, I want to help people and I want them to have the same opportunities and outlook as me. On the flip side, I know that sometimes it is easier to be a negative person. That is how society is nowadays, it is all about negativity, you hear all of these bad stories with how fast it is to get information, that it is hard to find media about the good things. But I every time I read about something good online, that just makes it all the better. In a world as beautiful as this, there is much to be grateful

Giving (verb): to freely transfer the possession of (something) to (someone); hand over to. When one gives to someone or does something special for someone, it is a win-win situation. In fact, the feeling of happiness is always mutual in those cases. No matter how big, small, concrete, or abstract the act of kindness is, it will go a long way nevertheless. The winter season - that is, the season for giving - is approaching, and it is a great time to “kick off” the amiable gestures for family and friends now. For me, personally, I would like to help cook a tasty dessert for my family to marvel over.…

Something every single person in the world wants is continual happiness. Everyone searches for this positive feeling in different ways such as: adrenaline, drugs, addictions, and splurging. Although, a not so common way people may find happiness is by being thankful. “If you analyze people’s actions, you will come to the conclusion that they all seek happiness. Every act, in fact, is a search for happiness, even if on the surface it doesn't look so” (Sasson). The human race searches for something that will complete us, or make us feel better about the things we do, and all signs have pointed us to happiness. In this essay, I will be comparing two articles, one written by David Murray and the other by Thomas Corley, hoping to answer the question “Does being thankful correlate with improved levels of happiness more than money does?” Both of these authors have written wonderfully about how being thankful makes you happier and how financially wealthy people are happier. It's a very intriguing question because it matters to us all, and once this question is answered it is possible that humans may be able to find the happiness that we so longingly search for.…

It made me feel appreciative for the things that I do have, like a roof over my head and food on the table every night. I may not have the most expensive jeans, or the newest iPhone, but I have everything that I need, and it was all given to me by someone who works a minimum wage job, and works very hard at it every day so our family can have the things we need. I feel as if growing up and seeing what it is like to live on a minimum wage has made me more of a determined person, it has only made me want to strive and try harder, so I can have better things for my kids than I grew up with. If you are always given everything you could ever want, you don’t ever learn how to appreciate what you…

I think that my attitude about gratitude is very important. Over the past couple weeks, I have been assingned to write about what I am grateful for or something good that has happened to me that day. I think that this has really truly strengthed my health in a lot of ways. I used to think that I wasn’t that wealthy. I used to think that everyone has more than me. I have had a talk about this with my parents and they have said that you should be so grateful for what you have. I have been thinking about this lately and its really got to me. I have read an article that there was a group of kids. Someone asked all of them to write down what they were thankful for each day. Some of the kids did it and some didn’t. it turns out that the ones who did it were the most happy. They were so happy and cheerful rather than the other kids who did not appreciate all that they had. They think that they should just be automatically given that stuff. If you think like that you will never be happy. I have learned from experience. When you are grateful for everything you are happy about everything. If you are happy about everything, then it can effect you entire health. Mentally and Socially. Just like we have gotten to write in a gratitude journal, that is practicing for many things. In my article, it says “people that have gratitude tend to be more creative, bounce back more quickly from adversity, have a stronger immune system, and have stronger social relationships than those who don’t practice gratitude. I think this totally true and I agree with it. In the end, being grateful makes you feel so amazing and happy.…

The Lord is a very generous and loving God. We, as followers and believers of Christ, should be thankful for everything He does. Many people in the world are not thankful for all the things the Lord does for them. They tend to complain about their life and worry about what they do not have rather than think about all the things they are privileged to have. People worry too much about who has the best phone, or car, or house, etc. and they do not focus on what is really important, which is their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It is very easy to think of all the things we do not have and be unthankful. We can be jealous and covetous. But the hard thing to do is to remember to thank God for everything He has provided for us and for the wonderful life that He has given us.…

Meaning, I was extremely lucky to be afforded the family and lifestyle I was given. I never had to want for anything growing up, given a second glance when walking into a department store, or struggle with trying to communicate with others who did not speak my language. I learned many things about myself and the world around me. One major thing I learned serving breakfast to the homeless was how important it is to give back to the less fortunate. Something as simple as saying hello or handing them a napkin can put the biggest smile on someones face and make their day. Giving back should not be such a burden on people. Our generation today complains and complains. We think we have it so bad because we can't do things like have a logo on our jackets, but when you think about it, at least we have jackets. From this experience. I learned that giving back to others needs to be made a priority in my life. I realized how much I value community service and how important it is to me. Equally important, I learned the importance of faith. For some of these people, faith is all that they have. God is the only person they have to fall back on. For someone who lives on the streets without a home or a family, faith and prayer can mean the world to them. Another important thing that I learned about myself is how good helping others makes me feel. To know that I made a difference in the world and helped someone get through their day, as rough as it was, fills me with a sense of gratitude. This experience was a true eye-opener for…

In my life, I continuously meet new people. These people help form me. Whenever I meet someone, especially if I get to know them well enough, that person leaves his or her mark on me. Friends, family, and strangers have all contributed to my edification. The kindness I see in some of them make me realize that if you are nice to people, they will, more often than not, reciprocate your kindness. Likewise, the blind idealism I've seen in some of them made me understand that the world is not a place full of sunshine and rainbows. I once had a friend who was going through a very difficult time in his life. I saw him suffer at the hands of typhoon Ondoy. The next time I saw him, he was practically homeless. His grades plummeted and he told me he kept seeing flashes of the flood happening again and again. I assumed there was no hope for him. I thought he was falling in a downward spiral. That taught me life isn't always fair. Sometimes we go through hardships that we have done nothing to deserve, but, as the days went by, I saw that same person get back on his feet, beat the odds, and persevere despite what he went through. This taught me that, no matter what happens, we must remember that God will always be with us, and His grace abounds.…
