“What does it mean to be a Canadian?”
Among millions of immigrants, my family is one of those who left life behind and chose to venture in Canada. It is not easy to leave the things and people you have accustomed to live with, but starting a new life all over again is the hardest. However, the difficult adjustment was not as tough as we expected, rather our life here became better and a lot more opportunities were offered to us. Canada is a diversified country in North America. It has a population of approximately 35 million, which consists of a million immigrants from all over the world. It is well known for its beautiful landscapes, bilingualism, very cold winters and most especially - the friendly residents. More than these, Canada is named as a country with the best reputation. There are so many things in Canada that attract people, which make it not just a country but also a home for everybody. The things that Canada has to offer are the factors in being a Canadian. Being a part of a multicultural society and having the freedom, equality and social benefits are what it means to be a Canadian. Being a Canadian means being a part of a society composed of people from different cultural background. Canada is a culturally diversified country where Aboriginals, French, English, Asians, Africans and other races live together in order. No matter what country you came from and what race runs in your blood, you are accepted in Canada. Multiculturalism is an official policy that confirms everybody to be a Canadian regardless of his or her race origin. People of every race and ethnic background can join in social, cultural, economic and political affairs. Multiculturalism accepts citizens and lets them keep their culture and identity. This acceptance gives Canadians a feeling of security and self-confidence, making them more open to diverse cultures and leads them to respect each other’s freedom. Being a Canadian means having the opportunity to have liberty....
