Being A Woman In America Today
To be a woman in America today is a lot different from being a woman during the twenties or thirties. Women have come far from where they use to be, from being able to vote, having lead roles in movies, to being CEO's in large companies. In my eyes, being a woman in today’s society means being independent, going for what you want and empowerment. I think more women are breaking down the stereotypes society has today than ever before. For instance, women are more likely to attend college and there are more women who are waiting to have children so that they can peruse their careers. However that doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. The way I see it is, there is always more that can be accomplished, however, I have a lot more freedom today than my …show more content…
To make things worse, they are not allowed to question it. As he put it they could get killed in his home country for questioning him. It is scary to think that their father has that much control. I know I said in the first question that my father was very controlling and abusive, but I cannot imagine being restricted as much as these women are. Unfortunately, women are not valued in his culture. Much like Bonita, on page 158, when they had their fourth daughter he was disappointed that he had “yet another girl.” For men especially, having multiple daughters seems to have this reoccurring theme of disappointment. I know my father was upset that he has two daughters and only one son. Given these circumstances, there are clearly still stereotypes that having a boy is more beneficial than having a girl which contradicts what I said about being a woman in America today. There is nothing empowering about knowing that your father would have preferred a son, or being limited by your cultural practices in a society that is making progress. But like I stated before, there is always more to be

In describing all of the current issues the modern day world has pertaining to women, it shows that for every step forward comes right back. Women still suffer wage difference, put up with racism, and above all encounter sexism far worse than men ever have. The efforts of society to, as Aude Lorde would say, control and…

I feel that women are sometimes still constrained to the domestic life but it is nowhere close to how it was back in the 1950’s. However, in the 1950’s they were treated unequal and sometimes subordinate to men and although it’s not as obvious today sometimes these views still are shown in other ways, just like racism. Racism still exists but is seen and expressed in different ways, same as views on women and their equal rights. We still live in a country where women get paid 75 cents working in the same job to the men’s $1. We as a society are yet to see a women become president and a lot of the time in the workplace there is a lack of respect for women in higher power. Men now feel degraded or demeaning when a women is their…

The book "A history of women in America" overall I thought was a okay book. I like that the book told about women’s struggle and the situations they endured. Through those struggles they gave us a voice and major goals were accomplished. The women who spoke out and gave all women equal rights really made me feel and have a great pride in being a woman myself with the rights they fought for in present day America.…

Throughout history the roles of women have changed dramatically. Since the 1950’s, women have slowly but surely evolved into the individuals one sees today in public offices or even law firms. Although women in the 1950’s and today have dealt with similar stereotypes, today life has greatly improved because women aren’t as pressured to get married, are taken more seriously in the business world, and are even making as much or more money as men.…

Women today in 2016 couldn’t last two minutes living the life of a woman in the 1900s. 100 years ago, females were known as the weaker gender but more virtuous and were not allowed to do anything unless they had a husband. They didn’t have any rights, authority, or opinion about ANYTHING! It was illegal for women to do a lot of things, and here we are 100 years later, we can do whatever we want, when we want, however we want without anyone’s permission. To sum things up, a woman is her own boss and controls everything in her life. She can follow her dreams without anyone stopping her and a woman can make her own decisions. Everything…

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a powerful leader in the modern day feminist movement, once said in a speech presented at TEDxEuston, We Should All Be Feminists, “Some people ask: ‘Why the word feminist? Why not just say you are a believer in human rights, or something like that?’ Because that would be dishonest. Feminism is, of course, part of human rights in general—but to choose to use the vague expression human rights is to deny the specific and particular problem of gender. It would be a way of pretending that it was not women who have, for centuries, been excluded. It would be a way of denying that the problem of gender targets women.” The actions of the F1 generation of feminist women who sparked the women's rights…

The status of women in the U.S. today has improved a lot. According to The State of Women in America, “women made up only about one-third of the workforce in 1969, women today make up almost half of all workers in the United States. Women are also stepping up to lead the country; a record number of women ran for public office in 2012, and a record-high percentage of women are serving in Congress.” Women today feel more apart, rather than an outcast. It is also clear to see that America is going to start to see changes with leaders of the country. Women are also paid equally to men according to their qualifications for the nature of the job.…

    Women's Rights In America

Women's rights have been a strong issue for many years. I have heard arguments of all kinds regarding this issue. Some people have said that women and men are equal in America, and others have said that women are treated better than men. Though they had their points (and wouldn’t listen to mine), women are not equal to men. Some of the things that aren't equal for both sexes are cost of products, pay, parental leave, and representation. The fact that these things aren't equal in our society today is crazy. Women should have the same rights and opportunity as men.…

The only thing worse for a woman than living an oppressed life is realizing that she has inadvertently conditioned her own daughter to follow in her footsteps. Mothers have been feeding their daughters the same fairytale for decades. They all speak of how difficult their lives have been, and how they want their child to live a better life than they did. They tell their daughters that if they marry a man with money, or one that lives in a place that’s “better for women,” things will be so much better, but there is no such place. A people can’t be oppressed without the promise of a better tomorrow. Women in America, as well as in other parts of the world have all been generationally brainwashed to promote their own mistreatment, and further empower…

In America, women can hold professional jobs, obtain advanced degrees, and make choices about their health. Every day, the media shows how women are still oppressed throughout the world.
