Behavioral Interview Questions
Describe a situation in which you were able to use persuasion to successfully convince someone to see things your way.
During my current internship, there was a lot of debate on one of the phone screen questions that we had. The whole HR team wanted to word the question one way, but I felt that it was confusing and a lot of applicants were getting hung up on the question. The question was related to previous job reviews and evaluations. The HR team wanted to use the word “opportunity” to infer to something the applicant was able to work on and benefit from during an evaluation. Many applicants thought that this was related to promotion, so the integrity of the question was lost. We are still in debate on how exactly to word the question, but now the team sees what I meant. Sometimes it’s hard to see things like someone on the outside of a company.
Describe a time when you worked on many different projects at the same time. How did you keep track of their progress? How did the projects turn out?
I have been doing this a lot this semester. I had two big projects in both my statistics class as well as my Spanish 321 class. Both classes are extremely challenging for me, and so it required extensive use of my organizational skills. I used my planner a lot during this time, I planned out time to work on each individual project, as well as coordinated times with both groups. Both of the projects turned out very well. I learned a lot about time management as well as allowing myself to sometimes rely on teammates instead of taking everything upon myself.
Describe a time when you were faced with a stressful situation that demonstrated your coping skills.
During my job at McDonalds, we had a few management changes. The first manager I worked with at Whitewater would yell at employees when she was under stress. At first, it was hard for me to deal with and I would get upset and take it personally. After it happened a few times,

The District manager would come in almost every month for a store checkup. We were supposed to be doing things weekly to avoid getting behind, but with this management nothing really got done. The District manager would come and there would be prices from the last month still on items. Items wouldn’t be on the shelves and still in the back from the night before. He would observe customers asking if we had certain things in stock and no one would know because it was a mess in the back. After the second time the District manager came to the store he was so fed up he just walked out.…

The last time I can remember responding to a significant stressor was when a car accident happened right outside of my friend’s house. We were all in the living room and we heard a huge boom, almost like an explosion, followed by screeching and glass breaking. Immediately, my friend Will thought someone hit his car. When we opened the front door, we saw a truck, completely flipped,…

The GM was solely concerned about the orders getting out in less than 5 minutes but did not consider the managers to be the problem no, it must have been those “punk” teenagers who work there. The managers were also getting more annoying. They would give us the most tedious and boring jobs and then yell at us if we did not do them fast enough. On this particular day, I had been yelled at a couple of times. They made me do the crappy jobs again. I got off late again. That night something inside of me snapped. I looked in the mirror, and I didn't like what I saw. I remember saying to myself, look at what you have done to yourself; you've aged ten years in the nine months you've worked there. In the coming weeks I put in my notice and deuced out (left). I have lived the rest of my days in peace knowing that I would never have to go back to that succubus of a restaurant, and understanding how bad those workers really have…

For instance, at my last job, my boss was bipolar. Coming into the office from one day to the next was different every time. This was very stressful. Our department file numbers directly reflected her moods. On days when she was in a good mood, and socialized with everyone, we had good numbers; however, when she was in a bad mood, our numbers were not so great. Which would make her even more mad and she would actually yell at us, even using profanity sometimes. To me this behavior as a manager is never okay.…

Life in the twenty-first century is a bit overwhelming with the multitude of choices regarding nearly everything. We are persuaded daily to choose this over that or that over this.
