Children who are praised for their good behaviour may start to expect better behaviour from their peers. They may start to remind one another the correct way in which they should be behaving. If they have a clear understanding of their expected behaviour it will allow them to become more independent in their own behaviour…
Reinforce what the student does well socially—use behavior-specific praise and concrete reinforcement if needed to shape pro-social behavior…
The teacher praised the boy sat next to Boy F and asked him to come to the front of the class and illustrate to the class the equation that they were solving. This action acknowledged the boy next to him was trying hard and was also an attempt to show Boy F that good behaviour results in praise.…
It is important that the adult influences of the classroom recognise and praise the positive behaviour of individual pupils – especially those who struggle to maintain good behaviour and tend to be told off more than others. It is also essential to praise constant good behaviour (from pupils who never misbehave) to avoid the development inappropriate behaviour. Children respond to all kinds of positive praise. In my setting, the class teacher and LSA’s often add positive words like ‘fantastic’, ‘brilliant’ or ‘well done’ when acknowledging their input towards the class. We also use house tokens to reward good behaviour. Giving the pupils a physical reward makes them feel that the efforts they make in their positive behaviour is very appreciated. The more we praise good behaviour of individuals, the more likely the pupil is to continue the good behaviour and maintain a positive attitude towards school and learning.…
2. Next reinforce the children’s good behavior daily through verbal praise, and hint at the aspect of receiving a prize if the good behavior continues. Here is where the “checkmarks” could have a positive and…
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is not a modification plan for students with difficult behaviors; it is a system for modifying the environment; as well as the way that teachers respond to these difficult behaviors. "Such environmental interventions, in turn, serve to make problem behavior less effective, efficient, and relevant and desired behavior more functional" (http://www.ldonline.org ). Teachers first should utilize a functional behavioral assessment in order to determine if there may be different reasons for similar behaviors. If behaviors originate from two different motives, each behavior should be dealt with using different support plans. Steps in assessing such behaviors are: Define the problem, answer key questions, observe and record antecedents, behaviors, and consequences, develop a plan, use the plan, revise the plan (Positive Behavioral Supports for Special Educators). PBS plans are being implemented nation wide to prevent and correct undesirable behaviors by first assessing what invoked the behavior.…
To receive the self-esteem that children need, they must be praised. Kori Ellis, writer of “The Importance of Praising Your Kids”, declares that children should be told how wonderful they are everyday. “Self-esteem expert Jack Canfield of Chicken Soup for the Soul fame often cites a study that says 80 percent of children entering school in the first grade scored high on the self-esteem inventory . . . [and] by the time they graduated high school, that number was down to just 5 percent.” The majority of teachers blamed the parents and vise versa. People need to understand that a line stands between too much praise and not enough.…
Parent and teacher play an important role in helping children develop a growth mindset. Dweck emphasizes the importance of creating a growth mindset environment in the classroom. She says that it is important for teacher to praise children for the process which they participate in, and the effort they put into their work. Geoff Masters, the author of “Towards a growth mindset in assessment” claims how important it is for teacher to give children credit by praising them. He thinks that it is an important factor to build up children’s self-esteem, which is a crucial trait to have for their life. This is a very good point since praising children can make them believe that no matter what their beginning level is, they can work their way up to…

My student teaching experience was very challenging, yet rewarding. The class was a very talkative and energetic bunch of students. The class had a high tendency to get off task when working independently, during free time, or in small groups. The cooperating teacher and I developed a new positive behavior plan in hopes of improving the talkative behavior. We develop a plan to give each student a star when we saw them reading, not talking when they are not suppose to be, getting things out quickly for the next subject, or sitting down and doing their work without talking. At the end of the week the students would have the opportunity to cash in their stars for tangible rewards. The class’ talkative behavior did improve because of the new positive behavior plan that the cooperating teacher and I developed.…

Teaching is a dignified, desirable, and demanding occupation. It is a profession which requires knowledge, patience, understanding, and a growing desire to help others. Unfortunately, it is most often under paid, underappreciated, and undervalued by numerous standards. So why does the writer of this paper want to teach? Was it a calling or is it just a vocation? This paper will touch on the extrinsic and intrinsic awards, the impact of teaching on the community, and family, the commitment of teachers to their students and teachers as role models.…
Those who support students' criticism or evaluation of teacher tend to argue that such efforts will lead to an improvement in teaching and learning quality. Their reasoning is that under pressure teachers will have to work harder and produce results. On the one hand, there is no hard evidence in support of their reasoning. On the other hand, students' random or non-constructive criticism and evaluation of a teacher's work can be counterproductive, causing a loss of respect and discipline in the class.…
