Becoming An Oral Surgeon

In my research on being an Oral Surgeon begun, all I knew was that they perform surgery on people's mouths. When it is actually more to it, it is long hours, stress, and for me especially, the yuck factor. Some people aren’t able to handle the nasty teeth or disgusting gums or any mouth infections or diseases at all. But oral surgeons are the ones who fix those problems. To become an Oral Surgeon, also called Maxillofacial surgeon, there's a lot of schooling. There is 4 years of undergrad work, 4 years of dental school, 4-6 years of residency. That takes a lot of time and dedication just to become an oral surgeon. You also need to have taken the courses of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Health, and Math. For licensing you must have a state license, you have to be certified by the Commision on Dental Accreditation. Some places for you to practice becoming an oral surgeon are Kaplan University. Herzing University, Walden University and Azusa Pacific University.
The things you need to do as an oral surgeon is perform surgeries on the mouth. To treat diseases, injuries, and any problems. Also to be able to diagnose any problems of the mouth or jaw. You have to know all the parts of the face area. Also you have to be able to remove teeth and remove tumors in the face area, record any patient care and communicate. The working conditions is that you’re gonna be in a clean environment and usually not loud but there are a lot of people around most of the time. But their average salary is about $212k each year. Benefits of being an Oral Surgeon includes being set financially, consent, and insurance. Also you get a lot of respect from many people.
