Becoming A Registered Nurse
Introduction: Henry Peter Broughan once said, "Education makes people easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern, but impossible to enslave." I believe that education is the key to a successful future. Sadly, I know how people underestimate the benefits of going to college. Tuition can be very costly, but in the end the benefits of education overshadow the tuition. Personally, I know that in the long run my family will benefit from me going to college and becoming a registered nurse. I did not have a role model growing up and I want to be the person my daughter looks up to in her life. There are many health care jobs that will get me some insight on being a registered nurse. Starting off as a certified nursing assistant or licensed …show more content…
I did not look up to anyone in my family and I did not admire any actor, actress, athlete, etc. I made it my goal in life to become something that will better not only myself, but my family as well. Most importantly I want to be someone my daughter, Kierra, will want to look up too. I want my daughter to have a better, more fulfilling life than I had growing up. I strongly believe that I can not help her until I have helped myself first. I want her to realize the importance of going to college. I do not want her to think it is acceptable to go from job to job and never own or amount up to anything. I want her to understand that by not going to college she will most likely become unemployed sometime in her life and then she will have to rely on family, friends, or the government to help her get by. I also feel it will be like a monkey see monkey do scenario. As a parent, I will have a profound influence on her educational achievements. By having a bachelor's degree, I feel she will most likely become more educated, because she will look up to me. I really wish I would have had parents who went to college, so I could have looked up to them in an educational sense. Kids chose who they are close too to be role models, in good or bad situations. Child look to role models to assistant in shaping their behavior and decision making. Children chose role models who are achievers, because it helps them with self confidence and it helps them to push themselves in life to achieve great things. By placing a strong value on my education, she will do the same with her education. I hope she realizes that everything I am doing, I am doing it for our family and one day we will have a nice house, instead of an apartment. Right now as a certified nursing assistant, I can not provide for her as I would like too. I would love to be able to take her on vacations and to see the world and learn about other places and cultures, but financially

One of the topics discussed in this report is the future of nursing education. The changes being made to our country’s healthcare system must include changes in nursing education prior to licensing and post license practicing nurses. With this change comes the need for a larger amount of nurses entering the workforce to have a bachelor’s degree or obtain it very early in the career. This report states that nurses must be adequately trained to care for a diverse population and to provide all patients safe and quality care and to perform as a leader. Nurses also must be prepared to care for patients in different care settings, such as, community and public health settings. The baccalaureate nurse receives this education whereas an associate’s degree nurse does not. Nurses should continue to educate themselves throughout the career with physicians and other healthcare professionals. A degree in Nursing could help me follow the path that I have wanted to obtain, for myself and for my family. As a first generation, there are high expectations for me to achieve and continue my studies to provide my sisters with a role model. Picking a college to attend was a pretty big deal to my parents than it was for me, for instance, they wanted me to attend a school that would provide me with a lot of financial aid, a school where it is small enough that I do not blend in, and a school that is known for their Nursing program. With that it lead me to this university, knowing that a small institute would provide me with a better outlook rather than a larger university. My experience so far has been a roller coaster, mostly downs. It was a big transition, going from high school where everything is given to you and you follow the material, to a setting where you have to set yourself and prioritize on what is important and disciplining yourself. The material is quite different as well, in high school, we went over the general and basics of a material while in college we review the basics but go even further into the…

Becoming a Registered Nurse has been something that I want to become in the future, since I was twelve years old. Therefore since that time I want to make a difference on the people who have to be hospitalized, helping them to recover. Although I would like to specialize with infants and children because they have a lower immune system and those are the most fundamental years of their lives.…

Everyone at some point in their life has made a trip to either the doctor’s office or the hospital. Many times, it can take hours to finally get seen by a doctor, and sitting in the waiting room is the last thing a person that is ill wants to do. According to Ann Hamric, Judith Spross, and Charlene Hanson (2009, 87) , their book Advanced Practice Nursing: An Integrative Approach states: “ The APN role that has shown the most significant growth is the NP. The number of RNs educated as NPs increased by 43.5% between 2000 and 2004 and more than doubled from 1996 to 2004.”…

I have always been the “caretaker” in my family. If someone were hurting, he or she came to me and told me his or her symptoms, and I did my research and told them what I thought about it. Before that, when I was about three years old, I took care of my newborn baby sister. My mama was sick, and my step dad was at work, so I took care of my sister. People ask kids what they want to be when they grow up, and they always get some crazy answer like a movie star. When my mama asked me, I said a doctor. I have since learned that doctors do make a lot of money, but they spend most of it on insurance. My career goal has changed; now I want to be a nurse of some kind, but it is still in the medical field. My grandma said that I like school so much that I will not stop going until I become a doctor. She was right about many things, but I am not so sure about that one. A Registered Nurse (RN) is a good career with a wonderful history, and a nice salary, but you need specific qualities to be an RN.…

I realized while I may be very good at what I was doing, I was not following my heart.…
