Beauty What is beauty? Beauty can be defined in many ways. For example, beauty can be a beautiful or pleasing thing or person. Beauty can be a color, shape or collection of things or how that object attracts them. In my opinion, beauty comes from within our hearts. In other peoples’ opinion, beauty is how a woman looks under all that animals’ carcasses, and how her body figure looks beautiful. No matter how beautiful his or her face is with acne, they are still not considered beautiful. What people don’t realize is that beauty really comes from within the heart, for example the bible verse (1 Peter 3:3-4) “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight ("Bible Gateway Passage").” However, in my opinion I agree with parts of the bible verse, but in order to survive in the millennium, beauty matters on the outside more than what is in the inside. For instance, Josh is meeting a beautiful lady. He’s expecting her to be hot or good looking and he does not care what she has in the inside of her that makes her even more beautiful. Eventually he will care what is on the inside because beauty on the outside never stays the same: it changes over time. Another way people describe beauty, the wrong way, is child beauty pageants. Why in the world would we want to tell young girls they’re not pretty enough? Why would we want to judge young girls so they could have plastic surgery or Botox injections? Collet Smart, an adolescent and child psychotherapist studied shredded self-esteem and the associated eating disorders of young girls in beauty pageants. She says that the body image is the number one problem of young girls and it's cruel to judge little girls on their appearance. To say to a young girl, no, you're not pretty enough makes their parents or manager to set an appointment for plastic surgery and Botox injections ("Overington"). In 2013, child beauty pageants showed statistics increasing by a proportion. Statistics showed that about 5,000 child beauty pageants were held every year and about 250,000 child contestants were participating. In overall aspect of beauty pageant, more than two million girls were competing in beauty pageants every year in the United States alone. In Women’s News last year, about 100,000 beauty pageants were held in the U.S. each year and about seventy-two percent of pageant coaches were hired ("Child Beauty Pageant Statistics"). In my main point of beauty, it has many ways to describe the definition and has been viewed in good and bad ways, but in my opinion I still see beauty as something that comes from within our hearts. Beauty has showed me that not only can we see beauty from the outside of ourselves but we can also show what is on the inside that actually counts, but in order to survive in this millennium, beauty matters more outside than within ourselves. Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face. It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and most importantly a beautiful soul.
