I’ve chosen a study that researches the relationship between attachment and sensory modulation in children. Their research question is, “Is the health of the attachment relationship in these children predictive of their sensory modulation function?” As a correlation study a non-experimental design was used.
Participants were recruited using convenience sampling with a mean age of 51 months, including 38 girls and 30 boys.
Measurements used;
Attachment Q-Set (ASQ) which is an observer rated assessment of the interaction between caregiver and child. It is not standardized nor does it has a referenced norm. It has a interrater reliability of .94. Reliability was additionally confirmed through the use of home video recordings of caregiver/child …show more content…

Researchers conclude that based on their findings, there is a relationship between attachment and sensory modulation within the study population. Further, they suggest that the findings indicate children who are insecurely attached to their primary caregiver may also struggle with correctly interpreting and responding to sensory stimulation from the environment. Additionally, they suggest that children with atypical responses to sensory information may have difficulty forming a healthy attachment to their primary caregivers. Researchers conclude that the function of sensory modulation and attachment can be explained or predicted by the other.
As implied in this lesson, correlation does not determine cause and effect but rather reveals a connection between two variables. In this study, because there was not an experimental design, it appears that the authors took it a step further, implying that the findings reveal that children with sensory modulation disorder/symptoms may be dependent on their attachment to their caregivers or visa
