The Battle of Ortona was a battle fought between soldiers from the Canadian 1st Infantry Division and a battalion of German Fallschirmjäger from the German 1st Parachute Division. The battle lasted from December 20 – 28 1943, and took place in the small town of Ortona, Italy. The battle was part of the Italian Campaign, which was the Allied name for all operations in and around Italy that would help them invade Sicily and force the German troops in Italy to surrender. The Battle of Ortona was nicknamed “Little Stalingrad” because it mimicked the constant close-quarter combat that occurred at the Battle of Stalingrad. The Battle of the Lone Pine was intended to be a diversion. The Australian and New Zealand Army fought in the trenches. They stayed in the trenches for the pre-bomb, hiding themselves. This was where they tried to bomb the turkish trenches to eliminate as many of them as possible. Once they thought that enough of the turkish were killed, they would climb up and fight. This didn't work properly because the turkish were not in their trenches and therefore were not killed. Grizzly Man was a disturbing, yet intriguingly interesting, movie about a man and his undying love and affection with nature. Timothy Treadwell spent thirteen summers living amongst wild grizzly bears in Alaska with the intention of providing protection against potential dangers that could cause harm. Treadwell thought of himself has as a kind warrior to these bears and recorded over hundreds of hours of footage showing these bears in their natural habitat. The Battle of Pine Bluff took place in Jefferson county. At 8:00 am, October 25, Col. Powell Clayton sent a company of cavalry toward Princeton which ran into Brig. Gen. John S. Marmaduke’s men advancing. After some fire, the Rebels, under a flag of truce, came forward demanding surrender. Lt. M.F. Clark answered that there would be no surrender. Clayton slowly retreated back into Pine Bluff. In the meantime, about 300 African-American soldiers rolled cotton bales out of the warehouses for barricades to protect court square. After failing to take the square by force, the Rebels attempted to burn out the Union forces but to no avail. The Confederate forces retired, leaving Pine Bluff to the Federals. Background: An account of the battle of the Yarmuk aka. Yarmuq or Hieromyax written by Al-Baladhuri in Arabic. A Byzantine general by the name of Vahan gathered a large army around 200,000 men and they conquered a lot of areas in the Middle East: Iraq, Iran, Syria, Israel, and Palestine. A reason for why they had so many men was because they would get men from the places they conquered to fight for them. They met the Muslim army lead by Khalid ibn al-Walid at the Battle of the Yarmuk in Syria on 20 August 636. The Muslim army had approximately 24,000 men. There were also the families of these men fighting or at least throwing stones. In this battle Hubash ibn-Kais al-Kushairi loses a leg. Also in this battle al-Ash'ath ibn-Kais, Hashim ibn-'Utbah ibn-abi-WakkAs azZuhri (i.e., al-Mirkal) and Kais ibn-Makshuh lost one eye. In the end the Muslims manage to miraculously defeat the Byzantines and reconquer the lands in the Middle East that was theirs before.
