Interview of Maxus, a true roman gladiator

Hello and welcome to the interview show joining us today is a roman gladiator who has just survived the coliseum and earned his freedom. Here he is right now maximus the gladiator

(audience cheers)

Dave: So then maximus before we get to know about your life in the arena I would like to know about your background and why you were chosen for the arena instead of labour?

Maximus: When I was young i use to watch my father, neighbours and family practice fighting, this inspired me to fight and train as a soldier to defend the town. But as i got into my early teens i began to take notice of the fighting art. Also on the occasion i would hunt the wolves that would move to just outside the village.

Dave: Okay then thank you for that, so, it always seems you were one for fighting but if you were so good how were you captured?

Maximus: I was captured when the army sent from Rome came in around two legions, our first priority was to evacuate the women and children who are hopefully safe still to this day, but by that time the army was breaking in and burning our houses, although that we were all good fighters we didn’t have the same numbers and weapons so we lost, they took me and twenty others from my village to work on a quarry. I was here for a week of what felt like a living hell. When a group of soldiers came with carts and horses they lined up all of the fittest men (most able to work), then one of the soldiers handed us wooden swords and we had to fight the trainer, I did well along with others so we were sent off to rome!

Dave: Well that is a very interesting story, so now that we know about how you became a gladiator?

The Battle of the Somme took place during 1916 to take pressure off the French at Verdun and the Russians on the Eastern Front. The French were under heavy fire at Verdun and had been since February, and the army itself was close to cracking. The Russians had fought gallantly on the Eastern Front to try and avert the German Forces away from the Western Front. After launching many small offensives the Russians had gained very little ground for the amount of lives lost. This essay is going to explore; 1st Day of the Battle of the Somme, the Pals Battalions used during the Battle and the tactics developed after the Battle of the Somme was over. Each of these key areas contribute because the first day of the Battle of the Somme had the highest casualty rate the British Army had ever suffered, Pals Battalions were inexperienced in the art of battle, and the tactic used before the battle were inconclusive in helping with the battle overall.…

Imagine being taken away from your family and your home when you were just seven years old. The Spartans may have built one of the finest militaries of the ancient world, but their culture was so harsh that the word “Spartan” has become synonymous with an austere way of life. Spartan society was carefully constructed around a strict moral code and sense of duty, and its people underwent extreme hardships and deprivation on their way to becoming accepted as full citizens. It is with this cruel way of life that lead to the greatest, hardest, and most disciplined warrior 's who ever existed in the ancient world.…

Maximus was the general of Rome and a really good general at that. He lead Rome to many victories. He was so great and loyal that in the movie, Marcus Aurelius actually asked him to succeed him in the throne. When Commodus heard this from his father, he killed him and sentenced Maximus to death. When Maximus escaped, he was picked up by a group of men and sold as a slave to become a gladiator. As a gladiator, he fought many different types of gladiators. Quicker ones had nets with tridents and slower ones had curved swords with shields. There were some gladiators that even had chariots. In the actual history of Rome, there really were different types of gladiators. The gladiators with the net and trident were called the retarius. The gladiator with the curved sword and shield were called the samnite. I'm not too sure if there were gladiators that used chariots as their weapons but it sounds likely since it is thought that the colosseum was filled up and used for boat wars. Using chariots would be easy for them and entertaining for the crowd. There's a scene in the movie where it's a one on one battle between Maximus and a champion gladiator. Maximus is barely armed and protected. All he has is a sword and shield I believe. The other man has two swords, a mask for protection, and heavy armor. This shows how each type of gladiator was to fight a different kind of gladiator so the match would be even and fair.…

A Thracian slave, unchained and fighting for freedom against the Romans suppressors. Many who have watched a movie or two will know exactly who we are talking about. Spartacus, leader of one of the most stirring wars Rome has ever faced. What a lot of people do not know is the reality behind it. Not known, for example, is that Spartacus followed in the footsteps of other people. Eunus and Salvius were also starting a revolt among slaves against the Roman Republic in the First and Second Servile Wars. It is these three Servile Wars we will do research on in this essay. We have the hypothesis “The main reason for these recurring uprisings was the non-egalitarian structure of the Roman society.” which we will try and try to argue for. We will try this by answering our research question: “Which historian gives the most credible and reliable account on the history of the three Servile wars?”…
