Personal Statement - College Essay
Walking through the door I felt a tense sensation among everyone. Hundreds of kids all with killer intent, all competing with one another. The room was dark and eerie, the hardwood floor full of dust. The dark winter night didn’t help the situation much either. Ever since my entrance into the room all I could ever think about was the outcome. As time slowly passed, my frame slouched forward, every step taking its toll. I could feel my heart in my throat as the coach rolled the basketballs down the wood floor. Few dents and scuff marks left from shoes being showed proudly like an old soldier showing off his battle scars. We were running full court simulation games. It was an endless loop of distraction and nervousness. I didn’t even exist on the court, I was a wandering ghosts. No performance was coming out of me at any period. I could sense the coaches looking and talking about me. Deep inside I knew my next destination would be home with none of my “dreams” of joining the basketball team would be fulfilled. After the full court games everyone who didn’t impress the coaches had to run back and forth. The coaches never told us the particular information that those who didn’t impress had to run, but everyone already knew just by looking at the coaches faces and the people who were waiting to run. Learning this crushed my spirit even more, it felt as though my heart skipped a beat every so often. Each time I ran I felt myself breathing harder and harder. Each time I forced myself not to throw up. At last the clock hit 6, the snow outside started to pick up, and the coaches lined everyone up. It was time to see who was going home and who was staying. I was in the middle of the line as both coaches started to pick kids out; about 12 kids were already sent
