Basketball is a very breath-taking sport to play. It draws others closer to their friends, and makes them realize who can really play a good game, or who is an unfair player in most cases. Another thing I like about basketball is that we don't only need friends or relatives to play against. We can play individually by ourselves. It can also be easier to learn when by yourself because we can teach ourselves certain tricks rather than copying from a friend. What's also cool about this sport is that you can play almost anywhere, indoors and outdoors, on a road, your driveway, the park, school, even at parties.…
I have been playing basketball basically my whole life, it is has shaped me into the person I am today. I started with just a ball and a hoop in my cousins front yard. I would just chuck the ball at hoop for fun, horsing around with my cousins. In elementary and middle school I would play with my friends at recess shooting around, dribbling in circles for the fun of it. I was even better then most of the boys who would play with my group on the courts. When I entered high school that was when I realized I was truly in love with the game. High school was where it was taken to a whole 'nother level. I was introduced to the real dynamics of the sport, it was where I learned that if I really want to do something that I love I had to put my all into it. I had to prove that I was one-hundred percent committed to the game. Practicing everyday for two hours, and…
The first game similar to basketball may have been played by the early people of ancient Mexico as early as 500’s. The Mayan people used the decapitated skulls of their enemies as the ball. They also made sacrifices if you did not win the game.…

Michael Jordan, a basketball superstar, once said: “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.” We all are destined for something great. There are people destined to be an Olympian. There are people who are destined to win an Oscar or to star in blockbuster movies. But there are people whose steps lead to the making of basketball legends.…

Scholar athletes deserve to be given special treatment because we have to go above and beyond more than the average student. There are times that as a student athlete that you will have to miss class due to road trips. When I was a freshman, I was assigned two papers in one day and they were both due the very next day, because I had to leave for a basketball road trip and we would have been gone the entire week and I would be missing the due date that was assigned for each one of the assignments. My teachers did not accept emailed assignments and only accepted hard copies. Now on that particular day I did not get out of class until twelve, had practice from…
While I encourage most basketball players to go to college and advance their education to the next level, those special individuals whose athletic ability gives them the opportunity to provide for themselves and compete at the highest level should not be denied the opportunity based the current requirement that players must be 19 years old to play for the NBA. High school basketball players should be mature enough to make their own decisions about their career paths, so the NBA shouldn't deny them. Furthermore, other sports have employed teenagers for years with success.…
In early December 1891, Luther Gulick, chairman of the physical education department at the School for Christian Workers, now Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, instructed physical education teacher James Naismith to invent a new game to entertain the school 's athletes during the winter season. With an ordinary soccer ball, Naismith assembled his class of 18 young men, appointed captains of two nine-player teams, and introduced them to the game of Basket Ball. Naismith told…
Basketball. A great sport made by James Naismith that a lot of people play. Like the NBA for example and the WNBA. This sport isn’t just for fun, but also for exercise, meeting new people your age maybe. In this report will show why basketball is a good sport and my favoriteOne reason basketball is a good sport because it’s good for your body. One blistering summers’ day in Northwest Florida, home for college, Jay was cleaning out the garage. This was apart of his mother’s summer clean sweep project, which she did every year. Jay comes from a family who is very involved in sports. So as he was singing the childhood clean up and going through and sorting the football pads, softballs, baseball, batting and fielding gloves, sweet bands, and other athletic equipment and sports wear he came across a recognizable object. It was his old bat. The Bat he used in little league almost 10 years ago. This was the first bat that Jay ever had. As Jay held the dusty, paint chipped, dry-rotting but yet still majestic bat in his hands, fond memories of the typical day at the ballpark began to flood his mind.…

Gorham was, and still is, a town full of talented athletes. My mother was a natural, I however, didn't get that gene, unfortunately. I have seen her basketball scrapbook with all of these old, oranged newspaper clippings showing her with her short poofy hair down as she dribbled the ball, or her being guarded by someone a foot taller than her. She was inducted to the GHS Sports Hall of Fame a few years ago.…
Basketball. What is it? How did it begin? Why is it so popular now as opposed to earlier in history. Basketball was brought to fruition in 1891, as a counterbalance to outdoor activities, the likes of soccer and lacrosse. It’s creator, Dr. James Naismith, a presbyterian preacher who worked as a physical education teacher at the YMCA international School (now Springfield College) was told to find and “athletic distraction” for the students there, and thus, basketball was born.…
