Basketball History Essay
Basketball. What is it? How did it begin? Why is it so popular now as opposed to earlier in history. Basketball was brought to fruition in 1891, as a counterbalance to outdoor activities, the likes of soccer and lacrosse. It’s creator, Dr. James Naismith, a presbyterian preacher who worked as a physical education teacher at the YMCA international School (now Springfield College) was told to find and “athletic distraction” for the students there, and thus, basketball was born.
Later on, in 1950 , the NBA became integrated. The first players drafted during that period were( in order of first game). Earl Lloyd, Chuck Cooper and Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton.Then the 60s happened, where as it stands, the only game ever to have a player score 100 points was played. That period also …show more content…
As it stands right now, This is the 2017-2018 with free agency shifting the landscape quite a bit this time around. Kevin Durant went to the Golden State Warriors, James Harden is officially the Houston Rocket’s PG, Russell Westbrook is basically holding a broken Oklahoma City Thunder team on his shoulders. With the draft having happened earlier this year, everyone’s expectations had been high for this class. Then the pre-season started. Actually, that’s not important because what the pre-season actually does is, gets every player that comes back that year ready for the actual season. As for any expansion that has already been established with international players in the draft and international league acquisitions. Other than that it’s highly doubtful that the NBA has any more expansion plans. Getting back to NBA’s future, the prospects with the most potential to be all stars are Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram, Buddy Hield and possibly Kris Dunn and Thon

    “The Book of Basketball: The NBA According to the Sports Guy” by Bill Simmons, was a book only the Sports Guy could write.
