• first 14 days • determine whether the pregnancy is viable or not. • Not susceptible to teratogens (agents harmful to pregnancy ex.radiation can not affect the ovum) • organ formation: no significant event B. Embryo • All organs form • Morphogenesis - body formation • First 2 organs to form: Brain & Heart • Babies born with congenital rubella - mothers had german measles during pregnancy it is not unusual that the brain & heart are affected at the same time bec they were dev @ the same period. • For mation of ectoder m (skin & CNS), endoderm (CVS & the rest of the organs), mesoderm (respiratory, urinary, digestive tracts, muscles, CT, bones) and their derivatives.

Pregnancy begins when a sperm penetrates an egg. One to one and a half days later, the single fertilised egg cell begins to divide. After two or three days there are enough new cells to make the fertilised egg the size of a pin head. The embryo then gets attached to the wall of the uterus by a placenta. Then a chemical signal stops the woman from having another menstrual period. After eight weeks, the embryo may have grown to between 3 and 4 cm, has a recognisable heartbeat and the beginnings of the eyes, ears, a mouth, legs and arms. At this stage the growing organism is called a foetus.…

During the remaining 7 months, all the organs continue to develop and by 20 weeks, the foetus will have reached about half its length at birth and by 32 weeks, it will be about half its birth weight.…

Physical Development – This is where the formation of a person will start, it starts off when the sperm fuses with the egg and from then development will happen right through the weeks. It will start off with the head, notochord and spinal cord developing. From then on more features will branch off and develop. At three weeks you have the embryo becoming c shaped and the umbilical cord starts to form. Then at five weeks your organs will start forming slowly these would include your gut, stomach, liver, start getting your heart bulge and intestinal loop. Then up to six weeks when your eyes are visible and mouth, this is where the ears and nose will start forming while your limps grow rapidly from tiny buds. Then at eight weeks the face is more human and the tail is gone. During the remaining months all the organs have developed. At 20 weeks the foetus would have reached half of its length before birth. By 32 weeks the foetus would have reached half its weight before birth. Finally at 9 months it will be born it will be fully developed and ready to start life as a child.…

Just one sperm may fertilise the egg. Fertilisation means that the genetic material in the egg to start a new life. Pregnancy then begins when a sperm penetrates an egg. One to one and a half days later, the single fertilised egg cell begins to divide. After two or three days there are enough new cells to make the fertilised egg the size of a pin head. This collection of cells travels to the lining of the uterus where is becomes anchored. The developing collection of cells is now called an embryo. After eight weeks, the embryo may have grown to between 3 and 4cm, has a recognisable heartbeat and the beginnings of eyes, ears, a mouth, legs and arms. At this stage the growing organism is called a foetus. During the remaining seven months before birth, the organs continue to develop. By 10 months, babies are start trying to stand up. At some point, they finally take that first furniture-free, Frankenstein-like step. Between ages 3 and 5, most kids can balance on one foot for a few seconds and hop on one leg. By age 5, they can often put together the complex moves needed for skipping. Cognitive skills helps with (thinking and organizing) involving physical space and objects. They start using their memory to learn and understand new information. Then memorize them into short or long term memories. These three skills are connected with each other. Occupational Therapy increased independence and self-confidence. Better understanding between parents and teachers of what a child should be able to accomplish. Improved ability to concentrate and complete schoolwork. Educational Therapy has five strategies which are Pre reading, Reading, Writing, Math and Executive Functioning. Pre reading focus on vocabularies such as hearing and using small words.
