On a more personal note I, Bekah Gehrke, was walking through the town of Ellensburg, Washington and I was asked by a reporter to be a part of an interview concerning local forest fires and how the smoke was affecting others and myself. I agreed to participate and asked this one reporter, who was filming and producing his own work by himself, how he liked his job. To which he responded along the lines of, “It is stressful most days and requires a lot of hard work. Sometimes I feel underpaid but I realize that I’m doing something I love.” I realized that, after visiting the KIMA television station on October 19th, these local reporters are seeking stories, interviewing, filming, and editing their content into stories all by themselves; as opposed to bigger television stations where there are separate writers, videographers, and reporters who work together to create stories for their audiences. I can honestly say that after this field trip, I have gained a new respect for local radio and television stations.…

Tracy Grimshaw is the presenter and interviewer of A Current Affair (ACA). Tracy presents the news in a soft manner and doesn’t really force the questions that might need to be asked. For instance when she was interviewing Andrew Bolt and Michael Marshell, Tracy just let them argue the point of the stolen generation apology, and if we should of said sorry or not. Where as Kerry O’Brian presenter and interviewer for the 7.30 Report presents hard news to the audience and get straight to the point in interviews. Such as when he was giving an interview with Jenny Macklin minister for indigenous affairs, he went straight to the point and didn’t hold back any questions. Both programs fall into the category of current affairs and share…

Television broadcast catering to the Indian community in Singapore has undergone several changes over the past few decades. From a mere one-hour belt with a shared channel, to becoming Singapore’s standalone Indian channel, Vasantham, Singapore’s first full-fledged Indian channel has propelled itself to become one of the most-watched television channels among the Indian diaspora not only in Singapore, but also in the Malaysian state of Johor Bahru. It has played a significant role in bridging ties for a more close-knit Indian community in Singapore. As I was reading through the posts of buhaymedia.wordpress.com, I realized how blind I was to the real world of the television networks. Of course, I could only see good about it because I was also fed only by good things about it. The journalists composed the media which is the watchdog or the fourth state and it’s their dedication and responsibility to bring forth and defend the rights of the masses and when we say masses it means the whole. But it seems that only a part of the whole is covered by it, according to the ex-GMA talent and a member of the Talents Association of GMA Network Inc. (TAG) Mike Manalaysay, “Kung kami mga journalist, pinagtatanggol namin ‘yung mga karapatan ng ibang tao, edi mas dapat din naming ipagtanggol ‘yung mga karapatan namin (Dangla, 2014).…
