Bareboating Research Paper
f you like sea turtles and snorkelling, islands and adventures, and sipping a gin and tonic as the water laps gently around you then bareboating in the Whitsundays could be for you.

Bareboating is hiring a yacht, catamaran, or launch and heading off on a high-seas adventure, with yourself as skipper, and your friends and family as crew, even if you have no kind of boat licence or don't own a boat.

There's a thorough briefing and a few tests in the harbour to make sure you have things under control but, once they feel you have the general idea and you've proven you have some sailing experience, the boat is yours to sail away in. You choose your route, anchorages and desired locations, and you have the freedom to change plans as you go.

He created a hand-made bean bag and was kicking it around. During the time of John Stalberger’s recovery the two decided to kick around the bean bag for fun. They ended up turning it into a game and calling it Hackin’ the Sack. Later on the two men collaborated and marked their new game under the trademark of “Hacky Sack®”.…

One of the most important aspects of The Open Boat which allows it to achieve pathos so successfully is the plot structure. In the beginning of the short story, a grim picture is painted of the circumstances of the seamen. We realise how dangerous their situation is, and thus take the story seriously right from the first paragraph. As the story progresses we almost find ourselves joining them on the boat, growing used to the radical changes of the wind and surf, and becoming tolerant of the endless waves threatening to overcome them. In the first few paragraphs we are given opportunity to connect properly with the seamen, their situation and who they are, before anything significant happens. This is important because we are therefore effectively focused on the seamen, rather than the happenings of the story, from the beginning. In this way we are included in the struggles of the seamen as well as in the raising of their hopes. This first happens when a lighthouse is spotted and a more optimistic outlook is afforded. The prospect of a life-saving station/house of refuge allows us to think the men will be safe after all-…

Santiago struggles with the fish, and I have had my share of struggles many of which are in Boy Scouts. One of my biggest struggles was hiking more than 45 miles in six days with multiple people who also fought with me and themselves. High Adventure was a great experience as we came out alive and relatively healthy. The physical struggle was almost equal to the social and mental clashing between my crew mates. Also, the food was okay but got worse during the end of the trip. Gear being distributed was also chaotic and caused problems. As I came out with no relationships not utterly destroyed it was a survivable voyage. Unlike Santiago, I didn't die, and it was great exercise and a great experience but one I'm not so keen on doing again.…

According to Schaefer, folkways are norms governing everyday behavior. (Schaefer, 2015) In an ever-changing society these folkways can change to reflect the times. What once were accepted folkways, such as men wearing hats and women wearing dresses exclusively, used to be prevalent; however, are now extinct. A modern folkway noted in general society in the last decade or so is the idea of “Casual Friday,” where even in a business environment, employees are allowed and encouraged to wear casual clothing, to include jeans. It was this modern folkway I chose to violate.…

As a child you would have heard tales about ships and seamen, pirates and shipwrecks. As you grew older you would have learned that ships are the lifeline of trade among countries. Everything from food to machinery comes by way of sea in huge ships piloted by sea captains. But what you may not know is that the captains are responsible for guiding the ship until they reach a port. Bringing the ship into the harbor and anchoring it is a task taken up by a different captain: one who belongs to a specific port and is familiar with the waters of its harbor. These captains are called marine pilots. Marine pilotage has a history as long as sea travels. The recorded history of marine pilotage dates back to about the 7th century BC. References to pilots assisting ships navigating close to the shore have been found even in the Holy Bible and in the writings of Homer and Virgil.…
