In the story Everyday Use by Alice Walker, the character, Dee is seen as a bad person. Although many people may not believe that she is good person, I believe she has some likable qualities. One would be her confidence. In the story her mother compares her and Maggie, and she said that “Dee is lighter than Maggie, with nicer hair and a fuller figure” she also says that “She was a woman now, though sometimes I forgot.” meaning that Dee, has a lot of self-confidence, and in looks she is better compared to Maggie.…

Everyone is evil—but being immoral is in the eye of the beholder. Not every person will consider the same things evil. So in reality evil has many different faces and it seems to be more powerful than good. For example one person may think that tattoos are evil and others use tattoos to express their beliefs. The choices made are also a great influence in the outcome accomplished. In the novel “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” Flannery O’Connor explores the nature of evil.…

Good leadership can be found in an individual that is persevering, does not give up, and encourages others to reach their goals. In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, Ralph and Jack are both given the chance to become leaders. However, both of them display negative qualities that reflect onto the rest of the group. Respect, a given human right, leads to a group disagreeing and falling apart when not upheld. When leaders fail to uphold democratic rights, society falters.…

A good leader must demonstrate the qualities that they want to see in their employees. For example at organizations like Starbucks and McDonalds the order takers are always friendly and greet you with a smile. This is a part of their customer focus, so a leader must be able to demonstrate these same qualities. If you saw your leader being rude or mean to customers yet they are always telling you to be nice this would be seen as a contradiction. Then you as the employee could lose respect for the leader because they are not effectively demonstrating what they want to be done. An effective leader must be able to lead by…

Leadership means vision, principle and, integrity. The definition is the power to motivate others through your words and deeds; this word also can be defined as the process of social influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of the accomplishments of a task (Wikipedia, 2010). When an individual becomes a leader there are required to make several ethical decisions. As we move into the 21st century, there is an emphasis on leadership and moral leadership, and its complexities. One can easily argue that today’s leaders cannot afford ethics in today’s society, although there is an increase in responsibilities and political or economic pressure. However, an alternative view would argue that leaders should follow the necessities of ethics. Furthermore, ethical leadership is an expansion of quality human services, consumers and community citizens, and committed employees (Manning, 2003).…

Good leadership is when a leader takes action and knows right from wrong. A good leader is someone who can lead the group and know how to protect the group from dangers. An example of good leadership in “Lord of the Flies” by William Golden would be Ralph. The reason I chose Ralph for good leadership is because when the plane crashed onto the uninhabited island causing the scar, Ralph began searching for other kids trying to form a group to survive and get rescued from the island. There are also some capable leaders such as Jack, Simon, and Piggy.…

What does it mean to be an ethical leader? Obviously, one first has to be sure that one is not personally engaged in unethical and corrupt behaviors. Unfortunately, in many recent examples, leaders cannot pass even this first test. In addition, one has to take responsibility for the larger role responsibilities of a leader position. One of the most distressing aspects of public scandals involving public officials is the discovery that their wrongdoing was often well known to those who should have done something about it, the topic of the “Quote and Query” box. Leadership… According to Webster’s, it’s simply referred to as “One who possesses the qualities of a leader…” If a person were to wonder what a leader was, they could get a fairly clear idea from the US Army’s Field Manual 6-22. This manual covers, with precise detail, what a leader, both military and otherwise, truly is. In this interpretation of what I feel leaders and leadership are, I will give the basic characteristics of leadership, what qualities are exemplified by leaders, and describe the effectiveness of good leadership in today’s modern military. It should be known, that “good leadership” is often a combination of multiple types of leadership that a “good leader” possesses. Such a leader utilizes a wide array of qualities with decisiveness to achieve a desired effect from those he or she leads. “Good leadership” is also, of course, a matter of interpretation and individual belief. One person may view someone as a “good leader’ who uses effective leadership, while another person may view the same person’s leadership qualities as being ineffective, unethical, immoral, dangerous and otherwise unhealthy for the general good of the people he or she affects.…
