The quote is stating that once you have enter a predators territory it will begin to feel threatened an natural reaction is to defend its self by attacking the invader.

This was the part of the story that pi a boy of Hindu religion learned about Christianity and liked its practices.

Pi believes that religion is a part of life that all people should follow and to not follow it is to believe only in doubt and darkness 6. “Tigers exist, lifeboats exist, ocean exist.
