Bantayan Island in Cebu Philippines as seen through my eyes: a wonderful small Island off the northwest coast of Cebu, and it's unlike any of the other provinces: it's quiet...REALLY quiet - there aren't many cars on the Island; everyone usually gets around via motorbikes....the air is clean & fresh, and the white beaches around Santa Fe are wonderful, as are the locals - many of whom are na my good friends, as I live on the Island

The most imposing historical structure in Bantayan is the over-a-century old Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Church. Located at the heart of the town, just across the town plaza, the church is made of coral stones put together by a mixture of tree sap and limestone.
The church which was finished in 1863 is the seat of the first and, therefore, oldest parish in Visayas and Mindanao which was founded on June 11, 1580 as the Convento de la Asuncion de Nuestra Senora which was at the time was under the direct supervis

6:30 AM From Cebu Mactan International Airport take a Taxi to Hagnaya Port in Northern Cebu (Travel Time – 2 Hours 30 minutes) We managed to negotiate from an original asking price of PHP 2,500 ($US 60.00) to PHP 1,500 ($US 30.00)! Go Hour Philippines!

9:00 AM Arrive by Taxi at Hagnaya Port
9:15 AM Depart by Island Shipping Corporation for Sta. Fe , Bantayan Island. Tickets cost PHP 135.00 ($US 3.75)

    Ok guys? Did you know that on April 7 1521, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan landed in Cebu. He was welcomed by Rajah Humabon, the king of Cebu, who together with his wife. Magellan, however, failed to successfully claim the island for the crown of Spain, having been killed by Lapu-Lapu, a king in Mactan Island on April 27, 1521 in the Battle of Mactan. In 1901, the city was governed by the United States for a brief period, however it attained the status of a charter city in 1936 and was governed independently by Filipino politicians.…
