Ball Control Practice
In my neighborhood, one can always find a group of people playing football in the park or on the streets. The majority of the children preferred football to other sports. I was also in love with the sport and I started to play football since the age of 10.i would often play football with my neighborhood friends at the park or I would just roam around the house juggling with the football and kicking it across the walls of my room. Football was a sport that I was destined to be prolific at. We jogged around the ground and then did some stretching. The coach then quickly briefed us about the drills we were going to do in training. First, we were asked to do “ball control practice”. We were asked to form a circle and then the coach lobbed the ball towards us, we were asked to control it with our feet and chests. The coach gave us guidelines, but I completely ignored them and I thought I was far better of myself as I was very adept and juggling and controlling the ball with my feet. I had assumed that the drill would be a walk in the park for me. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Every time the coach lofted the ball towards me, I failed to control it with my chest and feet and the ball would always fall a yard or two in front of me. Even if I did control it the ball wouldn’t come down that accurately and precisely as it usually does. The coach had a stern look on his face as not only me, but many others too found the drill to be challenging and did not perform up to the coaches expectations. But this did not comfort me as I knew that I did have the potential to do better. My coach emphasized on the fact that controlling the ball was an essential skill of a “complete football player” and that I was failing to master it.I was disheartened and dismayed by my performance. But over the next few days I viewed my debacle from a different point of view and I began to

Being a member of the Mighty Cougar basketball team, there were a couple of basic skills I needed to know, such as passing, dribbling and shooting the ball. I wanted to show my teammates and coaches that I could bring the ball down the court and successfully execute a play. As a Point guard, it was my job to take the ball down the court, and if I couldn’t do that then I had no place on the team. During game situations where the score is close, the other team may try and pressure the ball handler up the court to attempt and force a turnover. So with the help of the coach I learned to keep my head up, make short crisp passes and to keep the ball close to my side when dribbling. During our game against Brandies I was able to do just that. We were up by 2 with 30 seconds left and Brandies had their full court press in full swing. It was my duty to handle the ball down the court and using the…
