With focused resistance training you can work to increase your endurance and increase the number of push ups you can perform in each set.
When performing push ups, there are advantages and disadvantages that need to be taken in to account. Firstly, the advantages are that push ups are an efficient way to work out different muscles at the same time, by doing this it means time can be save and more workouts can be performed, especially if the individual doesn’t have a lot of time. It can also be used to help maintain or lose weight because pushes use more than one set of muscles at time same time and most of the fast in one’s body can be converted into energy by the body, as it doesn’t require any equipment at all, it means that no expense is used on trying to get the right equipment just to perform the test and also it can be done anywhere whether it’s a field or in the comfort of your own.
Secondly the disadvantages of using the push up test are that the body can easily adapt to the workout which could also lead to reversibility which is when the body loses its fitness due to the individual’s body being adapted to the work out. With push ups the individual is likely to get bored of it because it’s repeating the same workout and also it doesn’t vary within different

    Summary: The Douglas Bag

During exercise the demand for oxygen increases as the respiring cells require more oxygen to meet the increased demand for energy, there’s also an increased removal of carbon dioxide, (Burton, Stokes, & Hall, 2004). Carbon dioxide is a by-product of aerobic respiration (as well as water and heat). In this experiment Douglas bags were used to collect expired gas to be used for analytical purposes. Douglas bags enable readings of both carbon dioxide and oxygen to be taken with the use of a Servomex Analyser, as well as total gas content using a dry gas meter and pump. The analysis of these results can be used to determine the gross efficiency of an athlete, Douglas bags are used as a gold-standard approach due to their high reliability (Gregson…

Maximal oxygen consumption (VO₂max) is an excellent indicator of a person’s physical fitness level. It can also be used for many other things including diagnostic tools for physicians. In this study, two different methods of collecting maximal oxygen uptake scores were compared. The first being the predicted VO₂max score attained via the Rockport test and the second being indirect calorimetry VO₂max score attained through cycle ergometer and an attached metabolic cart. Ten males and nine females of similar ages participated in both the Rockport and Indirect Calorimetry tests. It was found that the Rockport predicted tests significantly overestimated the VO₂max scores for males by 14% and females by 16% possibly due to the variability the test is subjected to. The Indirect Calorimetry was therefore deemed the more accurate test. It was also discovered that there were significant individual differences in the data due to many differing factors, including sex, body composition, heredity and physical prowess.…

For the exercise that my partner and I took part in a ten minute warm up was the first step. After the warm up we had to walk up and down the steps for five minutes. During the exercise in general 150 steps in 5 minutes were done. The aim of this exercise was to increase our pulse rate, breathing rate and temperature. We took the pulse , breathing rate and temperature measurements before the exercise. After the exercise, we then took the measurements of our pulse, breathing rate and temperature too to see the change. Once we had completed this the first time, we then did it 2 other times, so in total 3 time so that the data was reliable and trustworthy. (Stretch, B., & Whitehouse, M. (2007).…

    Gym Set Vs Single Set

Therefore, it will be wise to use single set exercises for quite a number of different reasons. For example, I will use single over multiple sets during an off season and coming back from an injury. It will not make sense for me to destroy my body after a full season of sports. Body needs rest and eight hours a day just is not enough at a higher level. In addition, if the athlete is rehabilitating from a recent injury, single sets will be the better choice to progress to his or her normal weight range. If the person is not an athlete and never been to a gym or lifted a dumbbell; then single set exercises will be a great introduction to learn the fundamentals and gain the confidence to work out. Another example, Person A does 1 set of 5 repetitions with 5 different exercises with max load. Person B does 5 sets of 10 reputations with 5 different exercises with 70-80% load. Who will gain more strength over a longer period of time? The answer is not important because it implies both are achieving the same amount of results over a period of time. Therefore, I believe both single and multiple sets are useful based on the training plan and…

In my work I am going to explore advantages of calisthenics in comparison with weight training. Calisthenics and weight lifting are forms of strength training which help to develop better stamina, healthier bones, and of course, stronger muscles (Hill, 2011). The difference between these two types of workouts is that calisthenics is a combination of different exercises which use only person’s body’s weight and body’s resistance as an equipment (3fatchicks.com, 2009). Weight training is another form of exercises, which requires the use of weighted equipment or resistance machines (3fatchicks.com, 2009) and increases muscle size (3fatchicks.com, 2009).…
