What is a balanced diet?
A balanced diet is a diet that has the right amount of all nutrients and the right amount of each food group. There are seven different types of food groups and they are vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates, fibre, proteins and water. We need all of these to keep healthy and not malnourished. The term malnourished means people who have allot or an unbalanced consumption of nutrients. There are two types of malnutrition. The first one is undernourished and this is when your body lacks allot nutrient. Over nourished is when you have too much of nutrient and is usually when you have too much of one nutrient.
You need a specify amount of each nutrient. You cannot have too less of each and a male should be eating 2,500 calories and a women should have 2000 calories. This is a table of how much we should be eating:

Vitamins: vitamins process all the bodily process. They process the immune system to stop bacteria attacking the body. They handle the nervous system. They process the hormonal system. They also help the body to stay alert and concentrated.
Minerals: minerals are needed to keep your bones and teeth strong. Minerals also help your heart beat more efficiently. They help your nervous system and help bad cells too work better and more efficiently.
Fats: we need this to store fat in our body too much or too less is dangerous and it may leave you malnutrition.
Carbohydrates: we need carbohydrates as it gives energy. Examples of carbohydrates are starch and sugar.
Fibre: fibres help you have a healthy digestive system.
Protein: protein is used to build muscle. Protein is also used to repair damgesd tissue and it helps young people to grow.
Water: water is very important as the body itself is 60% water. we need water to maintain body fluid levels.
