This ensures that the leader is working for the commonwealth, not for selfish desires such as power or money. Such characteristics and examples of good and poor leadership can all be seen in the works Antigone, On Justice, Power, and Human Nature, The Republic and The Republic and Laws. “His first words were a gasp, but audible. ‘-Calling an assembly’.” A good leader is someone who is fair, organized, can plan, has patience, and has stoicism. Ralph in Lord of the Flies by William Golding exemplifies these qualities of a leader. A leader is important because without them the group of boys may not have found each other in the beginning of the book and would not have worked together to make shelter and find food. Without a leader, assuming the boys still met, the group would have been in utter chaos. A leader is one who can keep the group together and has the groups’ best interest in mind at all times. By allowing everyone to keep their freedoms, having necessary tasks completed, and giving security Ralph was proven a successful…

In today’s society, there are some people never really understand the qualities of a good leader. They instead vote for the ones who make choices that they like, but doesn’t benefit society as a whole. The children choose Ralph as their leader, who does his very best to maintain order. His authority is later threatened by Jack, a bloodthirsty individual who doesn’t care for rules. The boys then leave Ralph for Jacks more crude and savage-driven society. Ralph always maintained his mark, and cared for everyone else and their hopes of getting home. He has proven himself to be an…

Lao Tzu once said, “A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.” The existence of mankind on earth relies on various factors. The basic needs for us humans to survive are food, water, shelter etc. These though, are only the physical needs of man. Humans also have social and mental needs. These needs require us humans to have law and order to be able to coexist peacefully with ourselves, nature and the environment. The only way that law and order can be achieved in human society is by a higher authority, or some form of government and/or leader. William Golding tries to touch on some of these aspects of our civilization through the various characters he creates in his novel, The Lord of the Flies. Leadership plays a very important role in the novel as it does in real life for us, because the characters need to feel some sense of security in order for them to survive. The leaders which are presented throughout the novel all have their own method of leading, and serve different purposes. The elected and democratic leader is Ralph. In the novel The Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph acquires many leadership traits and he is the best leader on the island.…
