Bad Habits
Bad Habits

Its midnight and I have a paper due in the morning that I haven’t even started writing yet. Procrastination is one of my bad habits I really need to work on getting rid of. Bad habits can have an affect on your everyday life like work, school, social life, life style, etc. Some habits are easier than others to get rid of but with a well understanding with why you have the habit can help overcome it.

First of all, there are two types of habits automatic and cognitive habits. An automatic habit is a process that runs independently of and executive order by the person. A cognitive habit is a habitual way of thinking about the same situation without really thinking. Cognitive habits are easier to tackle by rethinking one’s constructs. Automatic habits are much more difficult to change. A habit can be formed by doing something daily so it becomes a part of your daily routine so you start to do it subconsciously. For example a habit I have is everyday when I wake up to brush my teeth. I’ve been doing that all of my life so it would be hard not to do that but I wouldn't want to stop because thats a good habit. An example of a bad habit of mine would be waiting last minute to do important things.

Waited last minute to do that project that was half of your grade so you had to stay up later than you usually would to finish it. Alarm clock rings to wake you up and your super tired going to school. By procrastination to do your project your tired when it’s time to wake up. So it has an affect on you at school. Nothing good comes from procrastination what so ever. All it does is make you

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

When Mr. Perry wasn’t grading his papers, he wasn’t sitting down, sometimes he would sharpen his pencils, or he would play games with the other kids there. So, one time in your life you probably will procrastinate, and you wouldn’t know…

The habits are more important and more complex problems than we think. When we repeat something many times and the action becomes automatic a new habit has been born. Habits are part of our life and they can be helpful as they free up our brain so it can concentrate on other things¹. The problem is when we create bad habits as they are very hard to break. If we think about Rab and his habitual drinking problem or how Juliet managed to lose weight it’s easy to understand that a person needs adequate knowledge, lots of encouragement and support to break an unhealthy habit.…

Almost everyone (if not all people) have a habit; it could be a good habit or a bad one. One thing most do not know is how a habit is formed? Can they be changed? A habit is a recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behaviors that is acquired through frequent repetition, and tends to occur subconsciously. Habits emerge because the brain is constantly seeking ways to conserve energy. It looks for a cue that becomes the trigger for a habitual response. We are then rewarded with a blast of the pleasure-inducing neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine plays a major role in the brain system that is responsible for reward-driven learning. Dopamine produces both excitatory and inhibitory effects and is involved in several functions, including learning, attention, movement, and reinforcement. Dopamine is also important to our ability to feel pleasure (Wood, Wood, Boyd. 2011). Habitual Behavior often goes unnoticed in a person exhibiting it, because a person does not need to engage in self-analysis when undertaking routine tasks.…

From brushing our teeth before or after breakfast to double checking the gearshift twice before pulling out of the driveway, habits revolve around our actions and decisions. The general concept of “habit” can simply be categorized into two areas: positive habits and negative habits. Positive habits include those that result in good test scores such as routine, study habits. Negative habits may lead to more detrimental consequences such as alcohol addiction due to lack of temperance or obesity due to ignorance of nutrition. Observation of personal habits have lead to the analyzation of the “chain of action” Glasofer and Steinglass mention in their article. For example, a positive personal habit would include the determination to drink at least eight glasses of water per day. The cue for this habit is initiated in the morning when a glass of water seems necessary after consuming coffee. All the decisions and actions we take as the progresses is the result of the familiarity of our…

The word procrastination comes from two Latin terms meaning to put forward until tomorrow. Standard dictionary definitions all include the idea of postponement or delay. Procrastination is rarely judged to be a positive thing. No person likes the idea that something has to be put on delay, they want it as soon as possible. Imagine if someone was told a riddle, but never told them the reason behind it. All that person would want to know was the reason behind the riddle, and that, gets their mind racing and, causes stress. The person to delay a task, also endures such stress. At the time to delay the tasks seem like the best option, but actually is far from it. Whether the significance of the task is great or small, the guilt that is there from you having to forget about it is there. The thought that all is being done is prolonging the completion of the task, is intense, and leads to stress.…

I learned that I do not procrastinate as often as I thought I did. When I do procrastinate I am usually doing it because my kids need me for something so I put studying off and say that I am going to do it “tomorrow” and really by tomorrow I say the same thing again. So I usually don’t get all my work done until Fridays and Saturday.…
