Engels' organization by key allows him to draw on the similarities of the works from both of Bach's volumes; detailing symbolism, motifs, developments, harmony, ornamentation, chromaticism, rhythm and melody. The book offers an overview of each piece, as opposed to detailed and in-depth interpretations of harmony and form.
