Aztec Culture Vs American Culture Essay

Question 1: Compare the social and the political power of the merchants in Renaissance Europe, the Aztec culture and in Edo Japan. Which society do you think most closely resembles the Canadian society of today? The societies and political structure during Renaissance Europe, Edo Japan and Aztecs all have their similarities and differences. In Edo Japan and Renaissance Europe, feudalism was the main structure of power; however in Renaissance Europe, a large emphasis was put on trading as well, but in Edo Japan no trade was allowed, as Japan was still in isolation. The Aztecs considered most of their workers as equals, but nobles were given an advantage in education becoming a warrior because they started much earlier in age. This is similar many Renaissance city states where nobles were treated better and were able to get better jobs with less work. In both the Aztec and Japanese culture, warriors (until the Mejia revolution) were highly valued both religiously and militarily. Before the Meiji Restoration, Japan was controlled by a feudal structure of power, where people would be given land in return for their money or services. When this was abolished, Japan moved into a new system of power called a constitutional monarchy. This advanced their society by getting rid of the samurai and many other traditions holding Japan back from advancing. Japan also built up its military under the Meiji which eventually overpowered the Russians in 1905. The British trained the Japanese army and the Germans trained the navy making it well trained and disciplined. The Meiji Revolution transformed Japan into an industrialized state by opening up it borders to trade, getting rid of feudalism and the samurai, and strengthening its
