Linking Arms towards a Sustainable Future
Ayala Land Sustainability Report 2008

Linking Arms towards a Sustainable Future
The dream of a sustainable future begins with actions rooted in the present. At Ayala Land, we realize that to make a difference, the crucial strides towards a sustainable tomorrow must be made today as global warming and environmental problems loom over the horizon. Now is the time to act with utmost urgency and focus for the sake of our children and future generations. In 2007, we defined the terms of sustainable land use and development, drawing from our rich heritage of environmental enhancement and impact reduction initiatives, and mindful of the specific challenges that face our environment, economy, and society. We then took a major step forward in 2008 by defining a Sustainability Framework that will ensure that the way we do business is responsive, transparent, and aligned with our promise of enhancing land and enriching lives for more people, for generations to come. This is the reason behind the theme of this year’s report. We want to communicate the necessary linkages that underpin our goal of providing a sustainable future even as we continue to fine-tune our metrics and targets that drive our various sustainability programs, projects, and activities. Apart from the partnerships we continue to make at the local and national levels with both public and private institutions, internal alignment is crucial. Only in this manner can the company commit to a comprehensive and coherent sustainability work plan and scale up the measure of our positive impact to a significant level. With the global financial crisis and the continuing effects of climate change, we realize that while we remain competitive, we must continue to raise the bar, set more aggressive goals, and deliver innovative products and services to improve our sustainability performance. Welcome to our second Sustainable Development Report, which covers our sustainability performance – both achievements and challenges in 2010. Our reporting has evolved since 1996, which was the first year we launched our Environmental Report, but our commitment to transparency and accountability remains unchanged. In this Report, we highlight a list of key stakeholder issues in each section, as well as providing a detailed response on the Report website. The Progress Against Actions and Agenda boxes that were previously at the end of each section are now integrated into one table on the Report website. In order to ensure that we report accurately, we have engaged independent accountants, PricewaterhouseCoopers to provide an assurance report on selected data in this Report.…
