Avon Fighting Breast Cancer Walk

Avon Walk for Breast is a national series of 39-mile weekend fundraising events since in 2003 by the Avon Foundation. This event series is a project of the Avon Foundation for Women and is not affiliated with any other breast cancer organizations or programs. (Caggiano. E, 2012)

Avon Walk in New York City

Till today, Avon Fighting Breast cancer walk is going on in more than 50 countries which including Chicago, Malaysia and so on. The event are linked by the Global Connection Ribbon, a powerful symbol of a shared determination to turn every diagnosis into a story of a survival. A special ceremony featuring the passing of the Connection Ribbon from one breast cancer survivor to another is a highlight of each walk. Avon Walk a charity walk which all the funds raised will be directed link to society which having breast cancer problems whom needed money for surgery. Besides, healthy is one of the moto of this event. Since it began in 2005, the Avon Walk Around the World for breast cancer has mobilized more than 1.4 million people worldwide and raised over $12.3 million for the breast cancer cause.

Avon emphasize that Avon Walks is not women-only events which men are both welcome and encouraged to participate. Breast cancer touches everyone which including families, brothers, sisters, and children. The disease even strikes a small percentage of men. Everyone can do their part in the fight against it. While in Malaysia, Avon Fighting Breast Cancer Walk is one of the biggest charity walk with a lot of media sponsors

At 9,000+ feet above sea level, our Walkers not only powered throuh 26.2 or 39.3 miles, but they also helped raise more than $1.7 million!.

All participants have their own unique stories and personal stories to tell but all unite throughout the weekend to become one, which is sharing their triumphs and tribulations, while working towards the common goal of eradicating breast cancer. Breast cancer get very less attention and awareness from public and is the most common cancer among American women other than skin cancers, about 12% women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.

The risks of breast and colon cancer screening likely outweigh the benefits for people with a life expectancy of less than 10 years, according to a new study. According to the study, it took average of 4.8 years to prevent one colon cancer death for every 5,000 people screened and 10.3 years to prevent one death for every 1,000 people screened. It took an average of three years to prevent one breast cancer death for every 5,000 women screened and 10.7 years to prevent one death for every 1,000 women screened. (Health Day, 2013)

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. The chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a women’s death is about 3#. Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, with larger decreases in women younger than 50. Therefore, breast cancer awareness month have been created to create awareness of the disease. These day, most people are aware of breast cancer, but many of them forget to take steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.

    Every woman is at risk of developing reproductive cancer, which is any cancer that starts in a woman’s reproductive organs, and the risk of onset increases with age. This includes cervical, ovarian, vaginal and vulvar cancers (CDC). There are 100,000 new cases diagnosed each year, with ovarian cancer being the fifth leading cause of death in women in the United States (Journal of Women’s Health). Stages I-III of reproductive cancer treatment are associated with extreme fatigue. This side effect makes cooking, cleaning, and other tasks energy depleting and stressful.
