Someone who is looking to pursue the career in automotive body repair will need to know the history, the requirements, the work environment, the salary, the types of tools used, the techniques, and the different hammering techniques. Automotive body repair shops are very common around the world because collisions occur all the time. The automotive body repair career may take up most of one's time and it will take effort from one's part but it will be worth it at the end.

The shops are usually very noisy, dusty and dirty. New technology has helped to decrease the noise and dirt level. All shops are usually well ventilated to reduce the amount of dust and fumes. Collision repairers weld and handle hot or jagged pieces of metal. To avoid getting hurt, they wear safety glasses, masks, and protective gloves. Sometimes the automobiles have the part in a tight space and the repair has to reach in there and this could cause bruises or even getting cut. Working in tight places could also cause pain in the back or neck if the position one is in is very uncomfortable(“Career in Focus”,52). Collision repairers lift heavy parts or tools that are needed and that could hurt someones back. As technology has innovated newer cars have smaller parts and that decrease the risk of one hurting their back. The newer technology will lower the risk of any accidents from happening. Collision repairers are under pressure to get the job done. The usual time that they work is a standard forty hours but sometimes work hours are longer in the shop is busy or if a repair is urgent (“Career in Focus”, 53).
