I assist the Managing Director of the organisation I work for, who has taken over the management of the drawing office department. We are currently in the process of implementing a new database that caters for 3D drawings. As one of the employees who works in the drawing office has been with the organisation for many years, working in the same department they don’t like change. The leadership style I would use in this situation is- AUTHORATIVE. I would choose this style because in this situation the decision to change the system has already been made and I would rely on the threat of negative consequences to ensure compliance. I would tell them exactly what is going to happen but giving them reasons and benefits of doing what I say. For example; I would explain that the new database would make their day to day tasks easier and more time efficient in the long run. Eventually all computers in the drawing office will have only the new database and the old database will be deleted, if they do not participate in…
Egypt’s dictator for nearly three decades, Hosni Mubarak once said, “My aim was never to seek a force and take power.” Just like most dictators, Hosni Mubarak’s desire was to appeal to the Egyptian citizens, which he did at first. He never intended on obtaining enough power to be considered a dictator. Dictatorship is the ruling of a country with little or no help at all from the government or society. A dictator disregards checks and balances between the branches of governments and seizes most of the power. Another prevalent characteristic of a dictator is that they were once loved by society, but as they got ahold of more and more power, their main priority was to seize complete authority. Hosni Mubarak was a strong leader during his early…
One of the most important items on their agendas is that they must complete tasks. They feel that it is important for their success. Many of the emotions and feelings that others experience, have no impact on their lives. I have worked with this particular leader for only eleven months now. She was my principal who not only displayed zero tolerance for disciplinary issues with students, but, with the teachers as well. I felt nervous when I worked with her. It was awful! In many of the staff meetings, she simply dictated orders to the staff. It was not pleasant to be a part of this team during this time. If she were asked to define her style of leadership, I think she would say it was simply participative. She could not see that it was a difficult situation to say the…
The most important concept of the Leader Influence Subordinate Behavior module is the Subordinate-Centered Communication. This counseling approach is centered on the subordinate where the supervisor asks many different questions to help the subordinate come up with an informed choice to solve the problem. Reading the Interpersonal Communications made me realized that I need to improve upon my ability to enhance my questioning and responding skills in order to better counseling my subordinates more effectively.…

An authoritarian parent lays down the rules and expects them to be followed without any discussion. These parents are very strict. They don’t allow the child to make choices and they consider what they desire without much consideration of the child’s wishes. Their rules are ridged and inflexible. Children raised by this type of parenting style may become very sheltered with unable to voice their opinions. They may have difficulty with emotional expression, unable to make good decisions which could lead to unhealthy relationships. For example, a child raised by an authoritarian parent, comes home from school and knows that they have to put their backpack in a certain place and what chores must be done. The rules are in place, as well as the expectations for his performance. These children know that there will be consequences if they do not follow these rules.…
A dictatorial and rigid boss will rule by fear. Fear of the consequences, for workers, if they cannot meet his or her demands, is the way such a person chooses to operate. The unfortunate people who have to work for such a tyrant will be afraid of losing their jobs. Those…
Most people tend to resent being treated like this. Because of this, autocratic leadership usually leads to high levels of absenteeism and staff turnover. Also, the team's output does not benefit from the creativity and experience of all team members, so many of the benefits of teamwork are lost.…
Authoritarian parents set very strict disciplinary rules; they expect their children to follow strict rules and regulations with strict boundaries. They exert their control over their children by telling them what they can and can’t do, without giving them choices or options. Authoritarian parents often scold and punish their children, often in a harsh manner, for not following their rules. Words and phrases an Authoritarian parent may use might include; “‘No you can’t ....’, ‘Because I say so, that’s why’, ‘Do it, do it NOW!’” (2013) According to Baumrind, these parents are “obedience and status orientated and expect their orders to be obeyed without explanation” (1991)…
A person can adopt various styles of leadership such as authoritarian, laissez-faire, or democratic. None of any leadership style is good or bad. It’s important that how the leader uses their styles to influent particular individuals to exert on the goal achievement based on an organizational context. Moreover, an effective leader must be respected by the members of his or her group in order to perform effectively.…

Coercive power is gained through the fear of employees. A coercive leader uses threats and punishments to coerce his employees to carry out tasks. The type of threats a coercive leader uses includes demotion, denied privileges, poor performance reviews, and termination. While coercive power may be effective, at least temporarily, this type of power is typically unhealthy and inappropriate. It commonly results in fearful staff, an uncomfortable work environment, low morale, and high employee turnover rates.…
