In 1770 James Cook, a british Captain, claimed the east coast of Australia for the British Crown, under strict instruction from King George III. The British colonisation started eighteen years later, with the arrival of the first fleet. This fleet established a british penal colony, a place wher the british government sendt criminals. The penal colony is the one that later on became Sydne. This were to be the beginning of a longterm realtionship between the British crown and the Australian continent.

January 1901 Australia became a nation when the six British colonies, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania and Western Australia desided to become united, and then form what they chosed to call, the Commonwealth of Australia. This was all because of an agreement of a drafted constitution by Australian voters. After 1900 when the British parliament had passed legislation to enable the Austrlian commomwealth to take form and come into existence all this was possible withous any riots or wars of any kind bethween the two countries. This new drafted constitution gave the commonwealth, or the federal government, certain defined powers and all residual powers were given to the new governments of the six colonies, which were then renamed states to what we now them as today. The political system is based on the Westminster system ,which is a parliamentary form of government based on the Politics of the United Kingdom. The Westminister system involves a set procedures for the organization of the Legislature assembly.The government emanates from the lower house of parliament or “House of Representatives”, but with a overhus in the form of a Senate with representatives of states.
