Atticus Qualities In To Kill A Mockingbird
The Man with Many Qualities It is just a very special thing when someone looks up to another. When they have a certain sparkle in their eyes. There are not many people in this world that can trigger this effect. The only person that can truly represent this is Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. He has so many amazing; inspiring qualities it is hard to only describe him in a few. Throughout the novel, Atticus’ qualities shine more overcoming and bright. Who would not look up to a person like Atticus? He shows so many traits such as being: fair, courageous, and calm. These are only some of the traits that Atticus can use as a lawyer and admirable father in Maycomb. One of Atticus’ best traits is his fairness to all people. He treats any man no matter young, old, skinny, fat, ugly, beautiful, or even ethnicticity. Although the best thing for himself to do was not to take Tom Robinson’s case, he knew it would not be fair so he …show more content…
He does not let anything stand in his way, especially prejudice people. Atticus uses his lawyer skills and intelligence to win his battles. He will do anything that he knows is right in his heart. In the story Atticus faces a very scary moment that requires a lot of courage from him. Atticus goes one night to protect Tom from a mob. He knows that these people could easily hurt him and get Tom, but he has courage. He lets nothing stand in his way of the truth.“’ He in there Mr. Finch?” a man said. “He is,” we heard Atticus answer, “and he’s asleep. Don’t wake him up”’ (Lee 202). Tom doesn’t even know that Atticus did any of this for him. Atticus most likely knew Tom would never find out and did it out of good will. It takes true courage to risk your life out of just plain good will. Even Mrs. Dubose was against Atticus defending Tom Robinson.     Atticus always tries to instill bravery and a sense of right and wrong in his children. This was partly why he took up Tom Robinson’s case because even though he knew it was a losing battle, he fought vigorously in court for him because he believed it to be an honorable cause.     First of all, Atticus demonstrates mental courage when he undertakes the task of defending Tom Robinson, a black man wrongly accused of rape. Atticus knows he won't win the case and like Mrs. Dubose in her battle against morphine, he is "licked" before he begins. Nevertheless, Atticus knows that Tom is innocent and that he must fight for him, since no one else will. Atticus's strong sense of morality and justice motivates him to defend Tom with vigor and determination, giving it all he's got with one mission in mind.
