Many books have characters that demonstrate courage, have patience , and show wisdom. In To Kill A Mockingbird there are many characters display this qualities. There's one particular character that have all of this objectives , Atticus. Harper Lee's, To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus is a courageous, patient, and wise character.

Atticus is courages. He is courageous when he decided to defend Tom Robinson even though he thinks he is going to lose (100). He is defending a black man, putting his family in bad reputation. Also, when Scout observes, “ the rifle cracked. Tim Johnson leaped, flopped and and crumpled on the sidewalk in a brown-and-white leap ”(127). Atticus is courageous because he was putting his life in danger and he only had one shot hit the wild dog . Again, he shows courage when he stays the night at jail to protect Tom Robinson from getting killed by the town men (204). Courage is shown here because he is risking his life for a man who never did anything for him. Atticus is a courageous men.

Also, Atticus is patient. He shows patience when Jem cuts Mrs.Dubose flowers (138-139). He stays calm, and takes control of his son’s actions by grounding him. Another time Atticus shows patience is in the courthouse with Mayella's immaturity(240). This shows patience because he could have just screamed at her or have been rude with her, but he did not; he has patience with her and talks to her with calmly and with respect. Also, Aunt Alexandra observes, “ Mr. Ewell approached him, cursed him, spat on him, and threatened to kill him”(291). Patience is shown here because instead of yelling at Bob Ewell back or hitting him back, Atticus stayed calm and told Mr.Ewell that he was not going to fight him. Atticus is a patient character.

Lastly, Atticus is wise. Atticus’s speech on the last court day is one of the smartest things he has said in the book (281-283). He is wise because he puts all of his effort on his last speech and makes smart comments like “ courage is not a man with a gun in his hand…”. Also, Atticus states, “ you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view- until you climb into his skin and walk around it”(39). He makes a true and smart statement and makes Scout realize new things about other characters by the way he fully explain it. Again, Atticus shows intelligence when he teaches Jem a lesson about real courage with Mrs.Dubose (149). Atticus’s intelligence is shown by making Jem realizing courage by just reading to Mrs. Dubose and proving Jem that courage is within her. Atticus is a wise person.

Atticus shows courage, patience, and intelligence throughout Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Courage, patience, and intelligence can be seen in many people, places, and things. To Kill a Mockingbird is a great book that has awesome characters, especially Atticus Finch. It is important to know people’s characterizations to know how the person is like.
