General Purpose: To teach the audience about the game of golf and the basics of how to play.
Specific Purpose: I’m going to briefly tell you about how golf started. I am then going to teach the proper grip and posture one should have, ball placement when going to set up, and what some of the different golf clubs were made for.
1. Introduction
a. Attention Getter: Have you ever gone out to the golf course with your buddies and had an absolute awful day? Golf is a challenging game both mentally and physically. It has been around since the 15th century and has been played competitively all around the world.
b. Thesis statement: Today I am going to teach a few basic principles that will help with your golf game:
including what clubs to use when, the proper grip and posture one should use, and ball placement when you set up for a shot.
2. Body of Speech
a. First you have to dress the part. If you look the part you feel the part

b. To avoid embarrassment one must know what clubs are used for what shot
i. driver (long game) ii. iron (middle/short) iii. wedge (close to the green) iv. putter (green or surrounding edge)
c. Now I’m going to teach you the proper grip and body position when going to set up
i. overlapping grip vs interlocking ii. dont use only arms iii. not too much movement
d. The last thing I am going to teach you is proper ball placement when you set up for a shot
i. front of the stance with driver ii. middle of the stance with irons and putters iii. back of the stance with different chip shots
3. Conclusion
a. Today taught you the proper attire when going to play golf, what clubs to use when, the proper grip and posture one should use while playing golf, and the proper ball placement when you go to set up for a shot.
