CHAPTER I
Introduction

Through the different stages of civilizations man always tried to look for ways to make their work and life easier. Man was never satisfied, so the concept of computerization was applied to give solutions to different problems from the different fields of Agriculture, Industry, Academic Business, Government, Sciences, Education, School, Home, and in almost any Organization and Establishment that exists. Most of the companies or institutions nowadays are implementing computerized techniques and processes to meet their growing needs, and it can be best defined by widely used of computers and other devices. In our life today, computer is one of the many inventions that greatly affected our way of living. In fact, it is regarded as an essential tool in many areas. It can perform operation and process data rapidly, accurately and reliably and by using these machines, spending a lot of time and effort in doing certain task is minimized. This research is all about an application system called “Attendance Monitoring System” that will help the attendance administrator to manage attendance records and reduce human errors. The researchers came up with an idea on how members attendance checking can be more convenient for the members and attendance administrator. The collecting and checking through and adjusting of plenty of attendance record therefore helps getting rid of manual paper works, reducing human errors upon saving the attendance record of members. This attendance monitoring system is a comprehensive organizational attendance management and tracking software solution that lets the instructions mark service attendance easier and faster. Upon saving the attendance record of the members, it secures and organizes data allowing an automated attendance check that would make the review of attendance data easier. The main aim of this paper is to develop an accurate , fast and very efficient automatic attendance system using fingerprint verification technique. We propose a system in which fingerprint verification is done by using extraction of minutiae technique and the system that automates the whole process of taking attendance, The study was conducted using a quantitative approach by designing a questionnaire as the data collection instrument based on fingerprint matching biometric technologies. The survey involved 6 employees based on stratified random sampling technique. The results however show that fingerprint biometric identifier was found suitable for the employee attendance management system of the organization.
