Atrophic vaginitis is when your vagina becomes dry. It is caused by low levels of female hormones (estrogen). This condition is most common in women who have gone through menopause. This is the normal time of life when you do not get your period as often and eventually stop getting it.

• Take medicines only as told by your doctor.
• Ask your doctor about using over-the -counter:
○ Creams.
○ Lubricants.
○ Moisturizers.
• Do not douche.
• Do not use any herbal or alternative medicines unless your doctor says it is okay.
• Do not use products that can dry out your vagina, such as scented:
○ Feminine sprays.
○ Tampons.
○ Soaps.
• Talk to your sexual partner if it hurts to have sex.
• Do not feel embarrassed
