Only 1,966 people our born with atrial septal defect (A.S.D.) each year. That is less than the amount of people in columbus by a huge margin. That does not mean it is not serious disorder. This is when there is an opening in the wall between the heart. This disorder can cause over flowing blood in the lungs and problems pumping blood through the body. These can lead to right side heart failure.
Atrial Septal Defect is a rare disease, to get a full grasp on the subject you must understand how the heart works.The blood goes into the top of the heart and go down to the lungs to get oxygen then goes back up the other half of the heart. A.S.D. is there is an opening near the top where the blood exit’s and blood fall’s though and goes back …show more content…
There our two ways to treat A.S.D. Poor appetite, fatigue, shortness of breath and lung problems and infections, such as pneumonia our the symptoms, swelling anywhere in the lower body, skipping a heartbeat. People with A.S.D. will have some of symptoms .These symptoms usually go away after treatment. The most popular way to Atrial Septal Defect is by surgery to seal the opening. If the hole is big they will patch up the hole while if it is small they will plug up the hole and the skin in the heart will grow around it. Many people usually treated at a young age and there our usually no side effects. Many people get treated for ASD at a young age and have no problems. For most procedure the patient will only have to stay overnight after the operation. People with ASD look the same and ack the same mostly before and after operation. Many people will go through life as normal after treatment for A.S.D.. A small group of people have ASD. It is very easy to treat. This disease is easy to treat no side effects of the treatment.     There are two types of aortic valve diseases: regurgitation and stenosis. Aortic regurgitation is a condition in which blood flows backward from a weak or widened aortic valve into the heart’s left ventricle. Aortic Stenosis is a narrowing or blockage of the aortic valve. There are three mitral valve diseases: mitral valve prolapse, mitral regurgitation, and mitral stenosis. Mitral valve prolapse disease is where one or both of the valve flaps (cusps or leaflets) are enlarged and the flaps’ supporting muscles are too long; instead of closing evenly, the one or both of the flaps collapse or bulge into the left atrium. Mitral regurgitation is caused by earlier conditions that have weakened the heart, such as if a person has had a heart attack or had rheumatic fever as a child. Mitral stenosis is a narrowing or blockage of the mitral valve, the narrowed valve causes blood to back-up into the heart’s upper-left chamber instead of flowing into the lower-left chamber. Atrial septal defect, also known as ASD, is a “hole” in the wall that separates the top two chambers of the heart. Ventricular septal defect (VSD), is the opposite of ASD, it is a hole in the wall separating the two lower chambers of the heart. Tetralogy of fallot is a combination of four different problems: a hold between the lower chambers of the heart, the muscle surrounding the lower right chamber becomes overly thickened, an obstruction from the heart to the lungs, and when the aorta is over the hole in the lower chambers.
